Someone suggested i post bike(s) i ride.
I guess i hab 9 bikes running now.
3 in 'merca, and 6 Thailand.
Here is my fave, 2008 ceeber.
2008 ceeber150.jpg

Bought 2nd-hand with 4500km 2-3 years ago.
Fixed her up with tires, chain, tank, vented seat cover, rack & box, auto chain-oiler,
and other bits but
most importantly, 10cm handlebar risers.
Rode her hard all around.
Like to cruise at 120.(+/-)10kph
Over 150 indicated once.
Thailand, Cambo, Laos.
Last year rode from Pattaya anti-clockwise around border
[Sea of Thailand, Cambo, Laos]
to north Thailand ending CM.
30,000,000 meters on clock now.
Smoking a bit, so had local experts ring-bore-piston her.
2650baht.
Job done in 2.5 hrs. start to finish.
Thank Buddha, i no require spensive schmancy bike.
Guess i'll head north soon for some more.
Hear CR is nice this time of year.

I'm not riding at the moment. Still waiting for my Africa Twin. Phoned Big Wing at Latprao today to see if delivery is nearing, but no definite answer other than they'll call 4 days before it arrives.

What to do in the meantime? I've exhausted all pornography available in the meantime but nothing does it for me anymore. I'm immune to it! Shiyet! I've even managed to clear some paperwork!

A real bike........ How about getting it modified with an electric start?
Quiet Power Drive
No doubt expensive. These guys are in the States, so you'd need to find a competent classic bike mechanic in U.K. to do the conversion. I will look at a conversion like this when I get too old to kick mine over.
Or;
Start Your Bsa SRM in Wales may be able to help with info on who could do a Triumph conversion. I imagine Patrick Godet in France does them on Vincents.

I had exactly the same bike as you have, 1978 T140V export model, black and candy apple red. Bought brand new in 1979, from the big new bike shop at spaghetti junction in Birmingham, Hailwood and Gould; Mike the Bike and Rod, both very successful professional bike racers. Loved the bike, most gorgeous thing I had ever seen, had actually wanted one for several years prior. Threw it down the road, drunk, black ice in winter, after 6 months. It seized on the motorway to Devon after 8 months. Just finished paying for it on H.P, 12 months exactly to the day, when some b*star*d stole it. I think it was the Wolverhampton H.A. they used to nick bikes and strip them down to sell the parts.
Got the insurance money, but I was heartbroken. I left England for good, a month or so later. Still, I've owned a '59 pre-unit Triumph in Thailand for 22 years, so I got over it.....

Thanks for that a really cool video ,bike sounded great its food for thought ,I'm just not sure about changing it from original as I have really tried to keep it original.
I know the shop you talked about in Birmingham as I lived in Coventry very near to the Meriden motorcycle factory and I used to go over to Birmingham to get parts on occasions .I'm not selling yet because it's the wrong time of year and I'm away in Thailand for January February and early March but thanks for your advice I will look into it .I'm thinking of buying a laverda jota which i used to own or maybe a slightly older triumph but a Meriden one with a electric start .its great you have a old triumph in Thailand .

Know what you mean about originality. But I guess it depends if you want to ride it........
I see you have Concentric Mk1's on there. Mine had Mk2's.
The rest looks the same. Pics from 1979.
What a gorgeous petrol tank.......

Hey Paul,
Have a look at this guy, Phil Humphrey, owns KBH Motorcycles in Devon, England. He owns several Triumphs, at least two of which are kickstart engines....... and he only has one leg!
KBH Motorcycles Ltd - Classic Motorcycle Spares
Another and cheaper option, is to fit lower compression pistons in your engine, if that would suit your leg better. I think the standard pistons on the '78 T140 were 7.9:1 compression ratio. 7.4:1 pistons are available for the T140. Maybe that would help you? Keep the Bonnie mate, if you can..... A Jota is great bike, but big and heavy, about 40kgs more than your T140.
My old 6T has enough power for me, but is a breeze to kick over with 7.5:1 pistons in it. Unlike my modified '71 TR6 cafe racer, with 9.5:1 pistons..... that requires a full body weight swing on the kickstarter to get going.......
Good luck
Ian

Well, actually........ I was playing lead guitar in a rock band at that time; Jameson Raid. We supported Def Leppard that year, 1980, on 2 gigs during their first UK tour. In fact, at the Birmingham Odeon we blew them off stage, because we were playing to a crowd who had seen us many times over 5 years and they were almost unknown.... We have plenty of vids on Youtube from a 30 year later re-union in 2010......

That must have been great experience.
I watched them live in 1984, rock spectacle I will never forget, definitely one of my top 10 bands of all times.
My apologies to admin for getting off-topic here.

CRF 250 Motard , great for around Chiang Mai city, on the open highway lacks legs, up into the mountains not to bad. Uncomfortable seat.
That's what I use here in and around Chiang Mai.
In Australia I have SR 400 cafe racer for around town, and for touring 2015 Triumph Tiger 800.

Well it's been almost a year since a small but crucial bolt came loose on the shift star in the tranny and chewed up 3rd gear...I bought a bunch of parts then realized the shafts were bent as well...then I had to return to Canada for 6 months...got back 3 months ago and thought I'd give ebay a go...found a complete k8 transmission with shifter shaft, bearings, shift forks, drum, well everything in the trans...bought all new seals...then found a complete k8 slipper clutch as well so in it went...had some time waiting for parts to arrive so thought since the engine was out of the frame it would be a good time to give her a face lift...polished the frame, outer lip of the wheels and painted her matte black...then found a graphics kit on ebay...all chrome...found a new undertail complete with lights...just waiting for my flush mount front turn signals...

Here she is...but first a before shot...

...and now...

Finished her yesterday...I also cleaned the fuel injectors and throttle bodies changed the plugs and oil and filter, checked the valve clearances and compression, new clutch pushrod seal, water pump Oring, new chain and sprokets...the works...

she runs better than new and shifts like butter...a ton of work...but worth every second...

anyone going to Buriram next weekend? I'll see you there!!!
