I live in this area so thought it might be nice to share some of the goodies (and baddies?) I have found around here.

I have not sat down here yet, but I did walk around to see the layout. It looks really nice. They have been open for 2 months and from what I saw they could certainly use some business

50 baht to use the pool all day and it is right there at the bar / restaurant area. Only 20km or so from CNX.

Directions from web site:
Directions from Central Plaza Airport

If you're driving towards Central Plaza Airport from Chaing Mai old city, take the fly-over which takes you on a right-angle left onto Mahidol Road (Road #1141).

Continue on this road (Route 1141) for +- 20km until you come to an intersection just past an unbranded filling station on left. Along the way, the road changes to Route 1317 and you cross all the major ring roads - The Super Highway #11, road #3029 and road #121.

There are a number of signposts at this intersection including a large sign for 'Alpine Golf Resort' - turn right at this intersection towards 'Banthi' on road #1147.

Proceed +- 2.5km until the road forks, keep to the left fork (The right fork goes on to 'Alpine Golf Resort').

Proceed another +-1.5km and turn right on to a paved road when you see a blue sign that reads 'Huay Laan Development Project' (Just passed a temple, Wat Pa Haa, on the right).

Proceed +- 1km to a T-Junction where you turn right and then follow the yellow 'Baanpong Lodge' signs.

This was a pleasant discovery near my home: Great food combining quantity and quality...at great prices.

273317=6023-DSC00394.jpg

The owner, Nong Yow, speaks great English. The restaurant caters to locals and rock-climbing falangs who look for the vertical rush.

The french fries are some of the best I have ever had. They do not seem to re-use cooking oil. Yum.

Feel free to drop me a line for the menu.

This place is heaven. This is where I take the bike for a quick twisty ride up the mountain. Prices are reasonable considering the location. Wow!

While having a lovely bowl of soup this morning a farmer, LunTaan, walked his cows on by. This was his way of keeping them away from other owners' plants:

Jira Restaurant owner, Om, operates a sign shop on the premises. It looks like he does great work at reasonable prices.

Don't miss this place!
This is a nice little break after freeway driving on 118.

Coming from 118 the turnoff is at a checkpoint. A km or two through the village gets you there. Keep your eye out for the signs:

274089=6947-P1000361.jpg

The Coffee Corner

274089=6949-P1000363.jpg

The owner, Supa. What a great lady! So nice and speaks perfect English.

274089=6950-P1000367.jpg

274089=6951-P1000365.jpg

Her husband, At. An ex-Army(?) guy. He is just as friendly as she is. He is a stocky guy and I would not want to get in trouble with him.

274089=6952-P1000369.jpg

274089=6953-P1000368.jpg

They showed me their organic garden, and I invited myself over for dinner. Supa says At is the cook. ;-)

274089=6954-P1000371.jpg

Doggy

274089=6955-P1000372.jpg

And the landslide behind their home/coffeehouse. They have planted banana trees since this happened during the rainy season.

274089=6956-P1000366.jpg

And photos of coffee next time!

I finally made it back here. It truly is a nice oasis in this area. I opted for the Tom Yom Goong and a nice lime shake. It was wonderful and spicy.
I would recommend Baan Paan as a nice getaway spot and a cool place for GT Riders to meet and enjoy the surroundings. That pool looked so inviting after riding for a couple of hours.

an extensive menu, but unfortunately the night we ate there there was a lot of "today mai mee".
Not to worry, just ask what do you have that is good today.
I opted for the salmon steak with garlic pepper - 199 baht & top value.

305949=22754-IMG_3820.jpg

The gf opted for oysters New Zealand

305949=22755-IMG_3821.jpg

plus shrimp & squid with garlic; & then I spotted an interesting special of the day
Pat Prik King Pla Duk Foo.

305949=22756-DSC_0447.jpg

& what a flavour that had. Highly recommended.

The happy friendly owner of the Mae On Steak used to work for British Airways flight operations in Bk, is well travelled & is a cool guy.

Check out the place.
Highly recommended if you're staying at one of the Sankamphaeng hot spa resorts, where the restaurant service at night is pretty minimal.
