Se Kaman 2 bridge to complete next month

By Singkham

(KPL) "The construction work of Se Kaman 2 bridge, a priority project of Attapeu Province, has been complete by 90% up to late April,"project head Mr. Thongsouk Aphayalath told KPL News last Friday. He confirmed that this project will be fully completed by end of next month.

The bridge links Samakhisay and Se Kaman villages, in Samakhisay District of the southernmost province-Attapeu. "In August 2010, the 208-m long and 11.5-m wide bridge was scheduled to be completed within 24 months, for a total amount of US$5.87 million, of which some US$2.6 million was a Japanese grant and the rest funded the Lao government,"he explained.

"The construction work failed to meet the term due to some additional works of UXOs clearance, the construction of a roundabout, electricity network installation and a construction of road links.

The additional work, calculated 15% of the original contract, has led to a total investment of US$6.1 million," he added

Upon completion, this bridge will create a passage between road No 18 B and 1 J to Phouvong district and Cambodian border, according to the www.mpwt.gov.la.

It will also to provide a facility to the construction of Nam Kong 1, 2 and 3 hydropower dams which are expected to be constructed in the near future. This bridge will improve living conditions of local people and reduce poverty, which is part of the governments effort.
