1982 & 1st trip to Doi Ang Khang.

I went with my brother & all these guys, from Mr Hong at Sriphum guesthouse.
Standing up in the back of a pick up.

The road up - R1249 - was all dirt!
Once in Ang Khang the Thai guys knocked off a couple of big bottles of Mekong whisky & then wanted to drive back to Chiang Mai in the dark & cold.
My brother & I chickened out - wanted to live longer - & we spent the night sleeping on the wooden floor of a hut in the royal project.

The next day we had a better look around & saw some of the poppy fields on the border.

seeing poppy fields in those days was "no big deal."

in some ways Doi Ang Khang has not changed a great deal.
For some people too, working at DAK the royal project has been & is their life.

A happy brither & I, plus Khun Piak from the Royal project. I understand he is now in Petchabun?
