Green book with old passport number - need to change?

My bike is registrered to my (farang) name and the green book has my name and passport number. Now I have got a new passport with new passport number. Should I update the new passport number in the green book? I guess it will not really be an issue before selling the bike. But anyhow, any experiences would be welcome.

I tried doing this before my ride to Sepang last year thinking I may have problems at the border. I went into Morchit DMV and was told it was unnecessary.

I went to the reg office in Phuket and asked Them to change my book to the new Passport.
He took a pen, drew a line through the old number, wrote in the new number, charged me 15 baht.
I laughed when I left the office..
