(KPL) Donkhong Bridge spanning the Mekong River in Champasak province has been 42 per cent complete, according to an engineer of its constructor , Mr. Lattana Taivanh.

"We have achieved 90 per cent of pile driving plan. The work fails to meet due date as it has been delayed by erratic weather. However, we confirm the construction project will be fully complete by 2014,"said Mr. Lattana.

The bridge construction project is part of a US$ 34-million infrastructure development project co-financed by the Chinese government (95%) and the Lao government (5%).

The multi-million US dollar project includes the construction of bridges -
one is Done Khong Bridge,
one to be built between Ban Had and Ban Na,
and
another one between Ban Donsan and Ban Khonglem -,
and ferry points in Ban Houakhong and Ban Huayyang.

"While the bridge construction is going on, several domestic and foreign businesses are showing more interests in investing in the region with a focus on tourism, guesthouses, hotels and restaurants,"said Mr. Lathtana.
Life in Laos is getting easier all the time.
