In 2014, I made a special trip on the KLX, to Tilosu in early October, hoping for maximum water..
In rained lots on the 3 day ride there. Then luckily, again overnight, before I visited in the morning. The guide's 4x4 Land Rover was going sideways at times in the metre thick mud on the 24klm trail to the parking area.
Then after walking through the jungle to reach the falls, I was met with the most beautiful, unspoilt and spectacular sight.
Difficult to reach and expensive to visit (cost of guided 4x4), which is great. Hopefully it will remain unspoilt.

[format=h2]Tad Kwan Waterfall[/format]
Phaya Mengrai district;
Largest natural swimming pool in Chiang Rai province. 20 deg 01"05.6"N 100 deg 11'11.8"E.

Last month, I took a KLX ride to Tad Kwan waterfall. There is an access dirt road from the east, from 1174, just north of Phaya Mengrai.
But this time I went in from the west, from 1173, from Pasang, Wiang Chiang Rung district. After about 5klms you come to a large village. The base for the Chiang Rai ATV company is there. From there you can take the dirt road south for another 5 klms.

You know you are in the right place because an ATV has been abandoned there.

It is then a short walk south through the jungle..

I saw no-one else there, or on the trail, so I had the pool to myself. A bit muddy but a good cool off.

Just passed the entrance to Khun Nan National Park near Bo Klua, Nan Province.
Taken in the dry season in 2015. I bet they're a lot more dramatic in the wet..!

Chiang Mai
[format=h2]Sri Sang Wan waterfall[/format]
The Sri Sang Wan waterfall or also "Srisung Wan" ("Sri Sangwan" on google maps) is located on the 1178 road, approximately at 31 km North of Chiang Dao
GPS point : 19°37'44.7"N 98°57'23.0"E

Very nice and quiet place, same style Bua Thong waterfalls. There is a small covered parking for motorbikes. The waterfall is very easily accessible after about a hundred meters of walking and stairs. We did not see any shops in the park. Nice place for a possible pic nic but remember to bring your food and drinks. Otherwise, there is a restaurant overlooking the rice fields that is nearby by returning to the 1178 road.
The fee is only 30 bahts and the ticket is also valid for Pong Arng Hot Springs located 4.5 km south of the falls (see the map).
A peaceful place and very nice where you can't realy swim because the water is not very deep (visited in March 2018).
Do not hesitate to climb upstream of the main fall (as Bua Thong falls, we does not slip while climbing in the waterfall), you will find another very nice "pool" to relax with a beautiful view from the top of the waterfall.
A nice place in the nature to have a break on the way to Doi Ang Khang or Wiang Haeng.

I visited a nice looking waterfall lastweek on Hwy #120 on my way to Chiang Mai, it is called Tad Mok Waterfall :cool:

This is not the more popular Tan Tong Waterfall where there is a car park area and a few small market type shops, although if you went past Tan Tong Waterfall heading towards Phayao it is only about another 500m or so...................it will also be on the LHS but very hard to see as its hidden behind many large trees...............I parked my bike on the side of the road and walked over a deteriated wooden walkway, it did manage the weight of 1 x Heineken though :D

Ive ridden the #120 many times and this is the 1st time ive noticed the Tad Mok Waterfall, surprisingly its only about 30m off the highway :eek:

Becareful if you google this waterfall as there looks to be another one with identical name near Phrae

The waterfall is actually hidden behind these trees and rocks, the water from the waterfall flows between these rocks and then under the highway 120, on was standing on the edge of the road to take this photo.................

Khun Nam Yarp Waterfall, Chiang Saen, Chiang Rai.

N 20 deg 14.504', E 100 deg 15.161'.

This waterfall is located between Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong.
It is difficult to access and very secluded.

20211105_143753.jpg

If you take the dirt road NE out of Huay Gwan (Memorial to communist murders village), after one klm you will see this turn on the right.
20211105_142506.jpg

The track goes through orange orchards and rubber trees.
20211105_142352.jpg

There are three water crossings, over the river from the waterfall.
20211105_142217.jpg

Then you come to the NP office, usually no-one is there.
20211105_142113.jpg

20211105_141646.jpg

Park as far up as you can get among the boulders.
20211105_141421.jpg

There is then a wide cleared path for about 100m.
20211105_141333.jpg
20211105_140954.jpg

Then you come to a bamboo bridge across the river.
20211105_140922.jpg

20211105_132555.jpg

Keep trekking through the jungle..
20211105_132807.jpg

Finally, you reach the waterfall
20211105_132325.jpg

Walking back you can find a pool for a dip. Actually, I am in the habit of going to this spot every year on my birthday.
