i don't think it is bad news.... and to be honest this may actually improve things further on ducati. If there is more money & knowledge available you can go much further.

Audi also own Lamborghini and they haven't messed with their DNA much....I think them owning Ducati will be good news. After all, it was owned by an investment group (their eye being on the bottom line) before this and they made some very cool, high performance bikes in this time.

The deal is now official with Audi paying Euro 860 Mio to the former owner, Italian Investindustrial. Hope this will improve the cashflow for Ducati and there will be more funds available also for the development of V.Rossi's Superbike......cheers, Franz

Better Audi than the Indians or Chinese!

Hopefully Ducati found a stabile future.

Maybe we'll see some five-cylinder bikes? :)

Yeah an 5 cyl "Daucadi" .... with "4 rings" Logo on the tank "vorsprung durch technik" written somewhere too , and a German Flag on the Tank .... that would do it for some :)

I did a little research into Audi's past and things are quite a bit confusing:

Audi, as it is known today, has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Volkswagen since 1966. In 1969 the Volkswagen Group acquired NSU Motorenwerke, a German manufacturer of automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles, founded in 1873, and merged it with Auto Union, naming it "Audi NSU Auto-Union AG" which was simply shortened to "Audi AG" in 1985.
Auto Union was formed in Germany in 1932 , merging:
Audi - having fallen out with family member, August Horch founded Audi in Zwickau 1909, which built inline-four-, six- and eight-cylinder-engined cars.
DKW - steam equipment company founded by Danish engineer Jørgen Skafte Rasmussen in 1916, it branched out into motorcycles, and then front-drive two-stroke cars built at Audi works in Zwickau since 1931.
Horch - founded by August Horch in Zwickau 1904, it built cars starting from straight-2 engines to luxury models with V8 and V12 engines.
Wanderer - founded in 1911, with small four-cylinder cars and later a more luxurious V6 built in Siegmar (nowadays Chemnitz).

The interesting fact is that there are some motorcycle genes in the pool...

Indeed NSU scooters ... I once had one ..... with the current retro-style fashion it would be nice to make a re-born NSU scooter. NSU also made some funny/nice cars with rotor-enegine.
