Finally, and for aesthetic reasons only, I choose the Puig. Colourless shield looked less intrusive on a white bike than other options. As for deflection efficiency, it's better than nothing but probably not really worth 100 beers!

I don't think that big "f" fairing will hold up at speeds. Has it been tested at speeds over 130km/h? With a better mount I'd go for that version.

Dunno... HTWoodson had a similar set up on his ER6n that held up fine until he crashed and it got ripped off...

In his case he bought an aftermarket screen for a Z1000 and had the mounting hardware made in Chiang Mai. It was a BIG screen.

Also, you can't tell from my crappy pics, but Ninja650R screen on the ER6n actually rests against the instrument cluster with a hard foam type damper in between the screen and the gauge, so that should also support the screen when it's being pushed back by wind at higher speeds.

Not sure if that makes any sense... I did yank on the screen and the hardware seemed pretty solid.

Ride On!

I have the same screen - I think it works surprisingly well, given its teeny-tiny size. But as you said, there are no other options unless you want your shiny beautiful new bike to get hit with the ugly stick. Aesthetics are perfect for the clear Puig.

The Ninja 650 one seems like it would be a whole lot more effective, and it's probably only about 1500 with decent mounting brackets. That would be my main worry - there's a lot of wind pressure on the screen, even more on a bigger screen. The Puig seems rock solid in this regard - the flat rectangular mounting brackets are 1 cm wide in wind direction which should be fine at any speed.

Do they make the Ninja screen in clear? If so I'm sold :)

PS: Is the Puig screen overpriced? On the one hand, sure, it's a small piece of plastic and some none too fancy holders for a cool BHT 6,000. On the other hand, between this and no screen, it's definitely worth the money. Perfect would be the Ninja screen in clear...

The stock screen for the Ninja 650R costs 600 Baht from Kawasaki and is lightly tinted. There are also quite a few aftermarket screens available for the Ninja 650R, some of which are clear, but if you go aftermarket, then the Puig becomes more "cost effective".

Happy Trails!

Like Tony said, I had the Givi screen for the Z1000 on mine, and it was almost as big as the stock Ninja 650, though maybe a little more attractive.

I had no problem at high speeds at all. As a matter of fact, I was more concerned when riding below about 80, because it would vibrate, but above that it stopped vibrating and was solid. Sadly it wasn't solid enough to survive a roll down into a ditch.

If I had to do it again though, I would definitely go for that stock 650 screen. You just can't beat the price, and while it's not great looking, it's no worse than the Puig or Givi screens.

I think the Puig screen blend well with the er6n design much more than any other after market screen but it all a matter of personal taste.

my opinion is that with it I can drive about 15kph faster for sustained periods.//i862.photobucket.com/albums/ab186/murray29/PICT0258.jpg[/img]

Hi Jan,
The 2010 comes in Black and Green:

Kawasaki sells an optional kit to change over to PEARL WHITE as well and you can still buy the ORANGE parts from the 2009 if you like.

Ah! Right you are! Wonder why that color is missing from the Kawasaki web site...
You'll have to settle for this terrible pic I snapped with camera phone

Understand it's about 10,000 Baht to change colors. The tank is the most expensive item- costs about 6900 Baht if I remember right. The plastics are dirt cheap. Ride On! Tony

I am just back from 3'300 km Isan tour and I did well to mount at least a small windscreen. I had no problem on hwy 11 at quite a fast speed. As many Isan roads are straight it had also a gain in comfort over there. Furthermore, my Givi box proved very handy to carry 13 kg of stuff, with his fast mount/unmount lock, also closing well to carry it up 5 stories in some hotels without lifts :).

Do not ask me why I changed the color of the windshield  Another 100 beers (in value) are gone!

They do not make the translucid Puig anymore ... so I had to change to this more "horny" look. No choice because I got already addicted to it, but I preferred the former one!

Hi Jurgen,

The screen looks good in your picture- you've made it "two tone" yes?

Happy Trails!

Hello Tony ... I did not made it two tones :( ... I had to change it because I broke the other one :( . Now they do not make the fully transparent model anymore ... so no choice, I took the "horny one" (looks a little like a buffalo now!). Actually it is not too bad, I just regret the old one (and the 100 beers to buy the new one). But entirely my fault!

Aha! Gotcha - so this is a replacement screen. How, if you don't mind me asking, did the original break???

:) quite easy ... but also complicate Tony. It hit the the road, or rather a sidewalk! The side bumper (a cheap but excellent accessory) did a wonderful job (as did the mirror who also acted as a bumper). As the sidewalk is slightly higher, it hit the windscreen, just enough to break the top. Sorry, I was not proud enough of that blunder to take a picture. I just drove a couple on hundred meters to Kawa, to have the mess fixed. Nothing else expensive, only the windshield.

Ah.. a shame, but good that it was only a minor spill. And other than the aftermarket screen, the EOM Kawa parts are amazingly cheap! Next time make sure you only damage EOM parts  Ha ha!!!
