Hi Guys!

Recently picked up a nicely modified KLX and am having a blast learning how to ride it.

So far I know of two off road riding areas in Bangkok and I've heard there are some more.

First is "Bo Din" an abandoned quarry just to the northeast of Minburi and just south of Lam Kuk Ka-

I discovered this are when Kawasaki sponsored a Versys offroad clinic there last year:

Here's a Google Maps Link:

Decimal GPS: 13.886782,100.796598
Lat 13° 53' 12.4152" Long 100° 47' 47.7528"

Bo Din is where Kawasaki, BMW and clubs such as Stormriders and SiamEnduroClub hold riding courses and races- it's a HUGE area and people are always out there building tracks and jumps and obstacles.

There's an awesome floating restaurant on the reservoir too that serves excellent food and ice cold beers. :happy5:

Messing about on the KLX:

This sure beats going to the gym! (Not that I ever go to the gym) ;) I plan to try and hit this place at least once or twice a week. Brilliant fun and what a workout!

I plan to hit Bo Din again this Sunday afternoon around ~2-3pm with one or two other KLX riders and there's also a big group of Thai guys who go there pretty much every Sunday. They mostly ride trials bikes and are a really friendly bunch.

All are welcome! Hope to see you there!

Happy Trails!

Nice 1 Tony. And yes, dirt bike riding is very physical. That's one of the reasons I want to get back onto a dirt bike. It's a great way of having fun and keeping/getting fit. I used to own a stock KLX 250 here in Thailand but it was to under-powered for my weight (90+kg). I reckon I need at least a 450 yamaha or so. Also looking at the KTM 690R. It's a beast for serious money.

Let's see. Do you have any recommendations on a 450 which can be bought (is available) here in Thailand?

Cheers Nicky!

Yeah, I have to agree that a stock KLX, with it's restricted engine is quite a dog. Fortunately they are very easy to de-restrict and there are plenty of aftermarket bits to liven them up.

If you're looking for a dirtbike bigger than 250cc and don't want to pay KTM dealer prices I think you'll need to be on the lookout for a grey market import. There are plenty about, some with plates, most without. Choosing plated vs unplated really depends on what you will use the bike for.

Red Baron seems to get a lot of second hand plated DRZ400's passing through their showroom and sometimes they have dirt wheels.

I chose the KLX because it's road legal, parts are cheap and plentiful, and I can take it across the border for trips to Laos and Cambodia and who knows, hopefully some day Burma too!

Happy Trails!

Another cool place for dirtbikes in Bangkok is the Siamenduro Red Bull Park, just off Srinakarin Road in Samut Prakan-

GPS: 13.602512,100.616869

Address:
Sap Bun Chai Soi 7
Bang Mueang, Mueang Samut Prakan, Samut Prakan 10270, Thailand

Google Maps link: http://maps.google.c...&num=1&t=h&z=18

This is private land and is gated when not in use. Open most weekends but best to check first.

Contact DirtShop (http://www.dirtshopthailand.com/page_a.php?cid=5) or SiamEnduroClub (http://www.siamenduroclub.com/) to make sure it's open.

Ride On!

Hey Mike, we missed you on Sunday! Good fun!

http://contour.com/stories/tuesday-afternoon-on-kawasaki-klx250

Actually, the above isn't from Sunday, but below are :)

About a half dozen Thai guys on trials bikes were having fun-
http://contour.com/stories/trials-and-dirt-at-bo-din-thailand

Bunch of 4 wheelers too!
http://contour.com/stories/4x4-hill-climb-at-bo-din-thailand

This guy was a former champ and still hauls a$$ at the tender age of 56!

LOTS of families out - kids on little 30cc pocket dirtbikes, young guys on homemade Sonic and Wave dirtbikes. Fun fun!

I'm hoping to hit this place regularly. Sure as hell beats going to the gym!

Happy Trails!

Ahh wish I had a dirt bike. So much fun playing in the dirt on Sunday. Clean your airfilter regularly when ruding in so much dust.

If you talk to the Thai guys they can hook you up with a second hand dirt bike for cheap. Really cheap if you don't want / need a plate.

Good advice on the air filter- this is my first dirtbike and I'm learning as I go, so really appreciate helpful pointers and hints!

Happy Trails!

Yeah I will start looking around. Maybe pay a visit to Red Baron, Yamaha and KTM (see if they can import 450-520 models with plates). I need a fairly good bike. I used to ride dirtbike for 12 years (6-18 years of age) and did a lot of competition.

I get the impression that right now is NOT a very good time to import bikes as there's been some serious pressure from the official dealers (mainly AP Honda) for the Thai government to make it harder (read, more expensive) for grey market importers to continue undercutting the "official dealers'" ridiculous prices...
That said, if you keep your eyes open you can find plated and legal second hand dirtbikes on many different sites including GT-Rider, BahtSold and the big Thai site: mocyc.com
Happy hunting!

Hey Steve!
Yeah, you're certainly close to Bo Din!
Nice looking CRFL you've got there!
I notice the API stickers- have you installed one of their performance ECU's in the bike? How do you like it?
We were at Bo Din yesterday and up to our usual shenanigans ;)
Come around a corner on one of the enduro tracks and find Trent in an odd position...

AawkIho.jpg

Turns out he landed on the handlebar in just such a way as to tear a nice hole in his brand new riding pants and he couldn't extricate himself from that position.

Jake gave him a hand:lol-sign:

We usually hit Bo Din once or twice a week in the afternoons. This weekend there are a bunch of events including the Enduro racing at Baan Ricky in Kanchanaburi and a Motoholic riding course and fun races at Siam Enduro Park.

Hope to catch up for a ride one of these fine days!

Happy Trails,

Tony

Hi Tony

I`m busy for the next three weeks, but I`ll be free to come up to Bo Din after the first week of April. PM me when your going and I`ll catch up with you guys.

Yes, thanks, I`m happy with the CRFL. I`ve removed all the emissions equipment, including the exhaust air valve, done some air box mods, put the delta 4 exhaust system on, it`s very loud. I took the standard 36mm throttle body off and put the CBR250R 38mm throttle body on and took it to A.P.I Tech and had one of their ECU`s installed with different mapping, fuel/air ratio, ignition adavanced, and rev limit raised within safe limits. The only problem is the ECU made the bike even louder.
But it goes well now. has plenty of bottom and mid range, the A.P.I ECU fattened out the top end a bit as well. It pulls the standard gearing better.
Although the chain and clutch don`t seem to like the extra torque. I`ll look at modifing them as they wear.

Hopefully catch up soon. Look like a good place to ride.

Happy riding

Hi Rob,

Bo Din may be a big muddy now with all the rain..

There is plenty of riding just out of Bangkok in Chonburi (Khao Khiew / Hills around the back of Pattaya).
- if you have a pick up.. Makes life easier.. But you can ride to Khao Khiew in a little over an hour.

Plus you have Baan Ricky out at Sai Yok for a long weekend exploring the trails.

If you have a KLX.. There is a Kawasaki Training / Enduro event August 30 / 31.

Cheers
Brian
