If you see my trip report "Inside Vietnam" I posted info detailing how to take 250cc bikes into Vietnam from Laos. I took my Laos registered Honda XR 250 and my friend took PVO rental (Vientiane) Baja 250 for an eight day tour in Jan/Feb 2005 from Vientiane to Vietnam (crossing Lak Xao/ Cau Treo border).
