Adding pictures - Help

Stop laughing and please tell me how I can add images to my post. I've tried and no pictures show when I preview.What am I doing wrong?

Not laughing, sometimes it takes me hours to get photos sized, uploaded to my website, correct url entered, and the photos arranged with the text the way I want them (then sometimes people still don't like them).

Too add photos.......

First the photos must ALREADY be in a website on the internet somewhere. Some use smugmug.com, yahoo or something similar. There are many free photo hosting sites if you do a search. ALSO the pictures should be reduced in size for internet. You don't need some huge file that takes forever to upload or download (PLEASE!).

When you write your message (not Quick Reply) you can click on the icon for insert picture. You will get something like this [img][/img}. The "closing" command must have a forward slash [/img}.

Or if using Quick Reply, you can add the brackets yourself. Your photos web irl must go between the bracketed "img" commands (this is HTML language)

EXAMPLE: [img]http://www.smugmug.com/myphoto.jpg[/img}. Careful here, it must be EXACT! If for example you enter "myphoto.jpg" but your photo is really named "myphoto.JPG" it won't work. These simple errors can drive you crazy.

Some Commands are; bold [b} "type your text" [/b}, Underline [u] "type your text" [/u}, Italic [i]"type your text"[/i}, Quote [quote] "insert quote"[/quote}, etc.

Again, if using photos I recommend please reduce the size to no larger than about 480x360 or so.

Thanking you! Many thanks for the reply but, my photos are on my computer! Please don't tell me I have to upload to some b.s. website.Pray tell there is a way to just post of me own computer!

Sorry, but unless your computer is connected to the internet full time with it's own IP address and you allow just about anyone to access it, you are in the same category as the rest of us.

David's website is not set up for us to upload and store photos directly on his server. That would take a lot of space and many additional headaches for a free "non-profit" site like his.

It's good and bad sometimes. Photo's can be interesting and add to the story, but if there are too many photos, especially large file sizes, it takes a long time to load on the slow dial up connections most of us use in Thailand. Regardless what Mr. Thaksin says, CM is far from being the "I.T. Hub of Thailand" yet!

Whatever you do, you need to upload the photos to a website, once. They can’t sit on your computer for everyone to look at.
Once you've got your pix uploaded you just need to insert a hyperlink & you're away.
It might seem a bit confusing the first time, but it aint that difficult once you’ve set it up & done it once or twice.
If you’ve got good pics, then you'll be a star on the GT Rider board & have lots of credibility. Brownie points will abound!

I believe if you insert a hyperlink it will give you the link to view the photo but it will not display the photo in your message. At least that is what is happening when I try. eg; http://www.daearly.com/GT_Rider/laos/const1.JPG

Right, it's not just a hyperlink.
My understanding is you need to
1. Post the text.
2. Edit the post.
3. Go to the tool bar at the top & click on insert picture
4. Then paste in the hyperlink between the brackets & hey presto your photo pops up in the post.

At least that's how it works for me.

To insert the pic you need to add the IMG tags at the beginning and end of the URL for the photo eg IMG http://photo.com/photo.jpg /IMG with the IMG inside square brackets. I use photobucket to store the photos http://www.photobucket.com. That website provides the correct HTML text to use to insert the pics with. For this board use the IMG text. Other boards use the TAG text.

Hi, ozzyboy here, I have read and followed your instructions above for adding a photo in my bike for sale add. but after trying for a couple of hours, I can't seem to get it to work. I uploaded 2 photos to Yahoo website and have pasted the hyperlink between the [ing] [/ing] yet all I get is a small box with 'x' in it???
Maybe the Jim Beam was a bit too much last night.
Well if anybody has any idea why I've f***ed up maybe you can give me some advice..

First of all, and maybe it is just a typo, but it must be img not [ing]. Next, the link must be exact including capitals, but if you did a copy/paste that should not be the problem. Yahoo is sometimes hard to work with and you may only be able to do a link to your photo album and not an individual photo.

You can "right click" on any of the photos on this board and then click on "Properties". It will give you the hyperlink and you can see what websites people are using for their photos and you know it works.

Thanks Dave, Ive just realised that the last time I tried to enter the picture, it worked, but I did not see it work at the time, only now as I was going to try some more.. so I've checked what I did and it seems I did the img small and I should have done it IMG, (and the ing was a typo,) so the comments about doing everything carefully is good for amateurs like me.
