Left C/Mai friday morning on the 108, roads okay and improved just outside of Hot, nearly halfway between Hot and M/Sarieng I took the 1099 to Omkoi for a look around. This is quite a pleasant road, a good surface and a fair few bends. at Omkoi I travelled on for about 15km on the 1099 but it is rather narrow and winding and I had left it a bit late starting out and I couldnt face about 70km just to turn around and come back so I left that stretch for another day. I got back to the 108 and soon got to that nice new surface which had new lines to start with then I got to where they hadnt yet painted them, I was happily blasting along thinking I hope its like this all the way to M/Sarieng when I went round a corner and nearly went up the arse of the vehicle laying the tarmac. This was 24km out of m/Sarieng, then its a shitty surface for about 5km and then its back to the old surface which is okay. As I reached the point where I would normally turn left into town the road was blocked and there was quite a crowd gathered around where a lorry had somehow taken down two telegraph poles and was well embedded in a shop, apparently luckily nobody was injured not even the lorry driver, I got to the 7-11 and there was no electric, I though shyte why today of all days but when I got to my guesthouse they had electricity, apparently it was only up that end of town affected. I checked into the Riverside guesthouse, my usual home here at 140 Baht a night, unfortunately my favourite restaurant called Chick Chick which is basically a Thai KFC was closed for my two nights here, I forgot its a Thai holiday this weekend, but luckily next door to Riverside guesthouse is a small restaurant called Goodview which has decent Western food available. Next morning I took the 1194 to Mae Sam Laep, this is a windy road and is quite badly pot holed in lots of places the further you get out of town. I had a look around Mae Sam Laep but did not go on a boat trip instead I carried on the 1194 to where the tarmac ended and then went a bit further on the bumpy dusty track, I soon got fed up with that and did a u-turn, 2km after the tarmac ends there is a nice sandy area on the bank of the Salawin river, ideal for a bit of sunbathing, the Thais say you can swim in the river but the current looks a bit fast for my liking, I mooched around here for a while then returned to town. Next morning its the 105 to Mae Sot, nothing to report here, the road is in its usual condition minus the loose gravel I reported back in December when I last rode it. Checked in at Fortune guest house at 100 Baht a night then up to P S Restaurant for a very nice large pizza at 120 Baht
