For me, David Unkovich I am interested in
HEALTH MEDICAL INSURANCE
Want approx 600,000 baht coverage.
Budget limit 20,000 baht.
Inpatient yes. Outpatient no. (Any changes must be made at renewal time.)
My preference: THI WH3000 (@ “16,936 baht.”)

TRAVEL / ACCIDENT INSURANCE
Not necessary as it will be included in the health medical.
Only recommend take this if you don’t have health / medical
Notes:
• AXA health does not have SOS.
• BUPA Travel and THI Journey Health cover only medical needs when traveling.
If you still want travel / accident insurance, list your preference if you have a quote / info from Tony.

BIKE INSURANCE
1. Comprehensive not necessary (for me.)
2. Want 3rd party insurance @ 3062 baht.

Hello all & thanks for the input so far.

It certainly looks like we have enough guys interested to get some group insurance with a discount.

I am collating some info, plus a series of questions for Tony at E Insurance http://www.e-insurethailand.com/ for him to reply on the board.

After considering this "we" then have to decide on exactly what all our individual needs are - what level of coverage do you want.

For those interested in medical / health insurance, please email Tony, giving him your Name, Date of Birth, Gender and he will send you a set of Health Insurance Plan Comparison Spreadsheets to look at.

I already understand that is not essential to have the highest bail bond for 3rd party - 200,000 baht should cover 99% of cases. (E.g. The current case in Bkk, where the cop who attempted to bribe the senators is out on 200,000 baht bail.)

In about 2 weeks we might be significantly closer to the "insurance" goal.

Stay tuned, nothing is going to happen quickly as a couple of guys are overseas = don’t panic.

2. group health insurance for my Thai lady

3. 3rd party liability

David, I think it is in GTR interest to know exactly who has mailed to Tony and who has got a response. The more people, the bigger the group the more leverage GTR has to get special conditions. I think you want to keep that marketing leverage under your control.

My initial post about "Too important to be overlooked" plus this thread now has drawn over 1000 clicks, an indicator of the vivid interest in the subject plus potential insurance buyers. I would like to show the GTRiders comprehensive summary about legal risks, probabilities of occurrence AND ultimately a recommendation for one GTR-group insurance per sub category = accident, health, bail etc.

The agent will earn a lot of commission for many years to come, it is nothing but fair to expect hard work.

For the record, my request for feed back to Tony came second after yours, no reply yet probably because of some fundamental question.
What about others ??

From Tony

Hi Ray,

Here is the quote from AXA. I like AXA, but I don’t think that this the quote you are looking for, in terms of your own motorcycle.

Of course, I can get your premium down if we don’t cover damage and loss of your own vehicle.

I also have a quote from another company, but they won’t cover loss to your vehicle.

I have two other insurance companies that I will seek a quote from today

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Ray.

Tony

I was going to post the qoute but it won't copy it wor ould cover the bike for 80k paid 250K for it three months ago as I recall laiblity is much higher then the norm, and it has, includes medical coverage and rthe get ouit of jail provision.

Some where around 7K per year, that gets a bit confusing it may or may not include the annual raodf tax. Sorrry best I could do off the top om head my head. It is definetly better coverage then you normally get. But the emphasis is on liability, not comprehensive coverage on the bike.

Hello guys. Tony has had a lot of individual emails from us which is great. He's working on a reply & summary of the options for us to be posted on the board at the end of the week / early next week.

Now some thoughts from me in the meantime.

BIKE INSURANCE
Each bike is going to be different & not all riders want the same level of coverage so it is important to get your own quote direct from Tony.

HEALTH / MEDICAL INSURANCE
My rough understanding is that you can get approx 500-600,000 baht coverage for 12-16,000 baht a year depending on which policy you want to go for.
The 900 thou high end cost quoted from Bumrungrad Hospital is from the best & probably most expensive hospital in the country. What costs 900,000 baht at Bumrungrad Hospital should probably be 30-40% cheaper at up-country hospitals where most of us are.
From my experience / knowledge of bike prangs 600,000 baht should cover you for just about the worst scenario. (OK you can never have enough if you are a worrier.)
German Joe from Joes Bike Team who had a nasty one a couple of months ago & had a bill of just on 300,000 baht.
My mate David Lek, alias The Snail on this board, totally wrecked his BMW car a few years ago & crushed his left leg. He was in ICU for 3 weeks, almost died 3 times, had 3 emergency ops on his leg, then had it all plated from top to bottom. Total bill was under 600,000 I think.
My bus crash near Uttaradit 10 years ago, nearly lost the left leg. Cut to the bone from the knee up. 100 stitches between the knee & the crown jewels (shit it was close), 3 skin grafts. Bill was less than 100,000 baht.
So overall I don’t really think there's an urgent need to get the max, unless you fear the worst.

A reasonable family (3-4 persons) medical health package could be had for approx 30-35 thousand??

SOS / MEDICAL EVACUATION
If you’ve got SOS covered in your medical health insurance, then there is probably no need for travel insurance?

Anyway all of this is just food for thought, whilst we wait for a summary at the end of the week approx. Stay tuned, it's coming together.

I'll look for the compilation.

What I was going to write is that everyone's situation is different. For example, Passport Nationality and Health Insurance status in Country of record.

Example: Health coverage - I have the annual SOS expatriate coverage have never had to use it for repatriation, but everything else over past 10 years has been outstanding. It doesn't pay Hospital bills in Thailand, but will arrange referrals, give advice and pay for repatriation if medically indicated. Office in Bangkok very helpful with advice on where to go and best health provider in Thailand. My USA health insurance (Medicare and supplement) will pay for bills incurred in Thailand in case of emergency, but then I must return to USA for continuing care if I need same and want Medicare to continue paying. I am required to maintain a "real" address in USA for that, but must keep that for my Medical License and Narcotics permit. All OECD countries probably have better coverage, than USA but details will vary. I have URLs for each country, but not in a single place that I could put on a spreadsheet. I'm willing to research any country and can do it if requested. I have access to much information since I am active in the Public Health field, including financing and delivery of health care around the world.

Collision Damage and Liability:

Again, depends on situation. I have a 20 year old AX1 in very good condition, but all the brokers tell me that the mandatory Thai insurance is more than adequate. for 99% of accident liability. I must eat the cost of repairing the bike. On my pickup, I have what most people call "first class coverage" with both liability and damage to my vehicle. Thai insurance seems to be "no fault". If have collision and don't need police for injury, my carrier not interested in other party's ID let alone their insurance coverage - I just get my vehicle fixed.

I have an "Umbrella" policy coverage is USA and it will cover personal liability on Thailand should it exceed the Thai insurance limit. Pays up to $2 million - could be higher at slightly more annual premium. For those who do carry liability on vehicles or possessions in primary country of residence, I'd advise checking on something similar.

Bonding: I don't know about that. for a Thai registered bike. My vehicle insurance on my Santa Cruz Honda Nighthawk would be covered.

I hope this info is useful. I had to use examples of my coverage to avoid jargon.

Wonderful, Dave that you caught this announcement.

thaivisa.com in itself will be a very big group commanding best conditions.

My personal view is we will not resolve this on/ through the GTR board.

It was good trial run to get info about the interest in general.

My suggestion to David as the GTR Master, wait until thaivisa.com goes online.
Again we will only see flowery marketing slogans, but there is someone new out who should be keenly interested to get a good group as a start.

Then, I repeat my suggestion put some faces to it, meet in person and do the leg work. Use the help offered by Bernie tuO2 and others coming forward.
Then solicit specific offers from TonyDabbs plus Thaivisa.
May the better win .

In case you didnt see it, ThaiVisa insurance has gone life.
They too dont cover beyond age 65.

http://insurance.thaivisa.com/

Interesting and related to the previous dscussion they say even if there is a normal health insurance in place, an accident insurance is recommended. No specifics to explain what is not covered by the health insurance in the event of a accident.
http://insurance.thaivisa.com/our-products/personal-accident-insurance.html

My question what happens in case you are not adequatly insured is answered here, they just let you nicely die, no moral/legal obligations=

30 August 2007
Ok guys I hope you have
1. Checked out the info – questions & answers – from myself / Pico /Tony
http://board.gt-rider.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2690&whichpage=3 & http://board.gt-rider.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2733
& now have a half decent idea of what’s available & how approximately much
2. all obtained personal quotes & / or a spreadsheet from Tony at E InsureThailand.com (http://www.e-insurethailand.com/)
3. decided what policy you prefer & still want to do something about it.

Some more info to perhaps clarify a few points that may be unclear.

GROUP INSURANCE
Group insurance is cheaper than personal insurance and everyone pays the same premium, no matter what their age is, as long as they are under age 60 when they enroll. Once we have 5 GT Riders for the nucleus of the group, family members can join also. Everyone is charged the same premium.

The group can choose to have 2 EH plans. Everyone does not need to have the same plan.

Rather than start adding new replies & making a long convoluted thread I think that it should be easier if we simply edit our original replies above.

My edited reply will look like (& be at the top of this thread.)

The policy provides
• 150,000 baht for injury to 3rd party.
• 200,000 baht for death or dismemberment of a 3rd party.
• 15,000,000 total maximum for treatment and death and dismemberment of many 3rd parties in one accident.
• 200,000 baht for 3rd party property damage per accident.
• 50,000 baht for accidental death and dismemberment for the driver (but not treatment).
• 200,000 baht bail bond per occurrence.

If you haven’t already got a reply up, listing what you want, then please wack one on this thread. If you are interested & don’t have a quote / spreadsheet from Tony, then please email him pronto.

..."Group insurance is cheaper than personal insurance...as long as they are under age 60 when they enroll."

Sigh! I guess the best I can get is accident insurance as I evidently will be considered a 'geriatric' (or old fart, geezer, etc.) as I reach
65 y/o tomorrow. Now should I buy an _aluminum walker_ (is there an offroad version?)...and will they insure it...[8D]

BTW...I requested health & accident insurance quotes from ThaiVisa,
and the reply indicated for me to just go to the AA-Insurance office for quotations, as I reside in Pattaya.
