Happy with gasohol:

Postby Bush Pilot » 28.07.2008, 07:34

I just got back from a 4000 mile jaunt through the north and north-east on my R1100GS and used 95 gasohol exclusively as 95 gasoline isn't available anywhere anymore.
I'd generally been anti-ethanol fuels for a variety of reasons. The main ones being that it's environmentally un-friendly to produce as it uses a great deal of energy and water to produce, it takes a great deal of land out of food production, benefits mainly big land-owners and their ethanol producing cronies and it's a disingenuous political football.

But since the engine of my GS seems happy I'm happy.

It took me a while to consign myself to using gasohol until I really had too.
Now I'm finding the bike runs fine if not better with the 95 gasohol. Too many times I found the quality of 95 gasoline to be suspect. The R1100gs engine is very sensitive to octane variations.

Anyway I found that 95 gasohol is widely available nearly everywhere. Much more available than 95 gasoline was say 2-3 years ago.
I like the fact that 95 gasohol is cheaper than 91 gasoline. I suspect that we'll see 91 gasoline go away soon also.

And with the gasohol's coming down 4.5 Baht per litre last Friday, there is now a huge difference between them and 91 tamada, so surely more people will now move away from 91 and it will become more difficult to get. I hope Mr Bungy will not be too upset to hear that I used both 91 and 95 gasohol in the Yamaha Raid on my way back from Chiang Mai, last fill up was 91 tamada as that will stay in longer in the tank.
I noticed absolutely no difference in performance or fuel economy, in fact it seemed a few km longer, actually onto reserve with the gasohol. 274km before reserve is a great range for a 250cc machine.

Well said guys.

I've been using gasohol on and off for over a year without any problems.

The only possible difference being a little less mileage but no effects on performance or tuning.
I nearly had a psychic girlfriend once, but she left me before we met.
