But I think I like the old forum much better.
the skin layout on this one is hard on my eyes.
There doesn't seem to be an option for changing the skin.
the contrast of red on brown next to the white on brown doesn't work.
Also the font is smaller on this new forum.
It's nice to have some of the features of the new forum like IM.
Perhaps a skin option feature could be added to this new fangled forum.
While the old forum didn't have many frills it did work well, IMHO.
Going back probably isn't an option I suppose. |

For whats it worth:
I just compared the three forum I use the most. teak door, advrider, and this one.
I guess the biggest difference is with the use of the red type,
Open up a tab for each on firefox and see. Both of those seem easier on the eyes. |

Can the Search section be changed? You have to type in the search terms in white font on a yellow background -argh _________________ Take the unfamiliar road or trail, you never know what you might find. |

Very hard to see in the daylight.

Don't like the colours or having trouble with the red & black, eh?
Have now installed an option for another colour set up, similar to the "old look."
Go to your profile
- scroll down to Board Style
- select the other option: subSilver.
Thanks for your input gents. All constructive comments are welcome.
There are quite a few hiccups still to be solved, including some "mis-placed" topics.
At a guess it will all be sorted & sweet in 7-10 more days (but don't quote me on that). _________________ Davidfl

FL...
I find the new colour scheme easier to read, so thank you for that...
The phpBB board is much more user friendly than the old one, so I think it is a good step forward... it has much better features, and better format...
I especially like that it seems that unregistered 'guests' can now view most threads, but can not post... It might keep your numbers down (and affect your advertising figures), but it means that I can send friends a link to my reports on here rather than posting a copy elsewhere...
I think you are doing a great job updating the board, not bad for an old bloke... I am sure that everyone understands the workload you have created for yourself, and appreciates the effort...
My only suggestion would be to find out from other phpBB users how they block/filter spam, because I am sure you will start to get hammered now... it might be easier to set up the walls now rather than trying to stop it once it starts...
Consider the $Au in the pocket of the jacket I sold you to be my donation (if you can steal it back from your son that is )
Cheers,

Yesss, this also solved the problem of white characters on a yellow background in the Search function - now black on yellow. Thanks _________________ Take the unfamiliar road or trail, you never know what you might find. |

Auke - the thing we did not understand in your case was the comments on;
"Yesss, this also solved the problem of white characters on a yellow background in the Search function - now black on yellow. Thanks"
This seems to have been a "you only" issue, because we've looked hard at ALL search functions on the site - text was white on black everywhere - so thats a complete mystery to us!
Bush Pilots comments about "red on brown" next to "white on brown" is also intriguing - must be a personal issue or a monitor complication, because the colours are an orange (#C3,43,31) on very dark grey, almost black (#27,27,27) etc. We've looked on multiple monitors / different sizes - ain't no brown in there, dude!
Cheers

I had white on off-white on the search function also and my monitor has been color calibrated. No browns though.
Ahh! Possible solution to the search function color. If one uses "autofill" such as Google, it highlights boxes that will be filled when you select autofill. Sometimes it gets a little confused. Eg; currently my "search by author box" is showing in a pale yellow. Turn off autofill and all is well. _________________ Dave Early

Well for me with the F1 colour scheme it does not matter if the autofill is of or on - in both case pale yellow background and white characters.

Yea I confess these old eyes aren't what they used to be.
For some reason the previous color scheme aggravated my existing impairment.
Thanks a bunch for addressing the issue so promptly.
I like the new features.
The only other suggestion I'd make is adjust the permissible avatar size to: (120 by 120 pixels or 50.0 KB (whichever is smaller). Low on the priority list I know. |

ok, upped the ante on the Avatar size for you bigger fellas to 140x140 with a 75k maximum file size.
Search Box - thats really odd - on my PC, Google's Autofill will not activate on the Board Search page! And BOTH the search input panels are white on black! E.g.;

OK, I switched everything back to double check. If I use the FI Black with Google Autofill activated I get the same screen and colors as Auke (AIM Messenger box also yellow). When I deactivate the Autofill and do a "refresh" I get the same as Admin and all is well. _________________ Dave Early

The White & Silver format really does it for me, much easier on the old eyes.
So well done and every success with future plans.

Well, tried everything what you guys tried but in the F1 Black color scheme its stays white on pale yellow (the AIM box as well). Anyway, as I am getting older my eyes prefer the White and Silver format. Thanks for that option for the board. Highly appreciated. _________________ Take the unfamiliar road or trail, you never know what you might find. |

| Silver or black, for me the board is like a chameleon - it changes its colours when it feels like it, i.e. randomly during a session. Changed the scheme forth and back to see whether that fixes it, but no go. Bizarre... |

Looks like this is related to being "logged in". When you are
logged in, the board has light colorus. When not, it is dark, and
you can click on "log in " on the upper right hand side, log in, and
it will be light again. _________________ -- michaels |

| No, sorry, I'm always logged in when it happens. It oscillates between the black and silver clour schemes. |

I've tried logging on using the Safari browser and it doesn't work. If you try to reply a post, it redirects you to the login page and you can't get any further. It works fine using Firefox on a Mac though!
