The route 323, 3272, 323

Total distance 361 km
Image
Out of town along the very busy 323 until Nam Tok then traffic eases a bit, but as its a saturday I guess lots of Thais are getting away for the weekend. There was a recent thread about throwover panniers, these appear to work perfectly and dont touch the exhausts

The River Kwai just before Thong Pha Phum

At Thong Pha Phum I take a left onto the 3272 to ride to the Burmese border

Image
Its a wide road to start with but narrows after a while but properly surfaced all the way

Need less to say the scenery is great along here
Image
At a rest point I meet up with these Thais from Bangkok who passed me earlier on whilst I was stopped
Image
I manage to sneak in on the second photo, Im the second bald guy on the right, next to the bald Thai guy
Image

Image
I ride off first and wait for them

Apart from the Yamaha which was a 400 the others were all small, they said that they all left Bangkok at 9 am this morning and when I met them at 2 pm this afternoon they were nearly to the Pilok village where they were staying for the night. Good on them for doing that
Image
This is a seriously bendy road the further you go

I reach the village and the Burmese border

Looking into Burma
Image
Its a proper road leading in here but then the gas pipeline and plant just inside the border requires co operation. I notice a truck full of foreign workers inside Thailand with their uniforms on and two years ago I met some Westerners here who were working inside Burma

About 100 metres back and its a Burmese soldier

The hill in the middle is the one with the Army camp that I usually ride up to but times getting on and I have a long way to go so it can wait until another trip, I doubt if anythings changed much up there anyway

A pleasant little trip is this route
Image
Nearer to Thong Pha Phum and the reservoir comes into view
Image
I ride back to Thong Pha Phum then take a left onto the 323 and ride to Sangkhlaburi
Image
Birdland is where I eat and stay, run by an Americam named Jimmy who spends his time between here and his other place in Kanchanaburi
Image
100 Baht for the room which includes a hot shower

The hamburger and fries was 75 Baht

Hi Colin,

Have been following your Kanchanaburi reports with great interest. Was working there on the pipeline in the mid nineties and you are inspiring me to go back and check all the roads we used there; which by the way I think you've covered.
The two I remember most are the Pilok mine road and the road around the reservoir betwen the ferry points.
Great photos.
I nearly had a psychic girlfriend once, but she left me before we met.

Peter there is a great road network around Kanchanaburi, I reckon I could spend a month here exploring them all

Great picks indeed on this trip Colin, you are finding some brilliant shots.
