For anyone driving between Krabi and Surat Thani ther's a new highway that's not on any maps yet that runs directly between the two cities. It's called highway 44, and is by far the easiest way to get between the two cities. However, since it's new there don't seem to be any gas stations alongside of it yet, so make sure you're full before heading onto the highway.
