Last week my wife and I did the MHS loop and then took a side trip to the Burma border near Mae Sarian(to Sam Laep) on #194. We were expecting the equivalent of the great winding asphalt we had been getting on the rest of the MHS loop. We were quite dissappointed in the road surface- much construction and several stretches of newly laid down sand and much of the rest of it was potholed. Complete areas were caved away with only half a lane or less to traverse what had been a two lane road. It could not be ridden with the joy that the rest of the MHS area can be. The town and the people of Sam Laep were worth the trip but too bad that the road has suffered from the flooding of last December. steve moore
