I leave in the morning and have the worst ever journey in Thailand, I travelled straight down highway 2, this is one shit journey and I wont make this mistake again. I stay at my mates house for four days and just laze around, we went up to the Ubonrat dam north of Khon Kaen for a ride out, its about 25km north of the city then a left onto the 2109 but nothing spectacular. I popped out for a ride around on my last day there and took the 2131 east till it joined the 2062 then took the left turn and followed it to Mancha Khiri where it joins the 229, its left again and straight over the 2, the 229 has now become the 23 and I follow on for about 15km till I turn left onto the 2300. None of these roads have anything special to recommend them, they are basically flat and boring. The 2300 meets the 208 and I turn left and go back to my mates house where I decide its time to move on tomorrow. I leave on the 2 until I see the turning on the left for Ban Phai then follow this into town, then its the 23 heading east until the right turn onto the 2301. I follow this until the road splits and I take the left which is the 2297 and somewhere along here I tok a wrong turn as I spent ages riding pothole city, some seriously shitty roads out here with no numbers or are not on my map. I eventually join the 202 and follow it easterly until the junction with the 219 which I take to Buriram. My Lonely Planet book is ten years old now but I always think that what was the cheapest then will probably still be the cheapest now, it lists the Nivas hotel as the cheapest but really low quality at 80 Baht, I check it out and find its still 80 Baht a night but really dreadful. The Chai Jaroen hotel at 120 is a much better place and I stay here, I locate two KFCs so food no problem.

Hi CS
you should of kept going after Ubonrat dam and taken a left up over the mountain and from there to Nongbaulamphu it is a nice run with some good roads.
