For GPS users the Red Piano is located at N13 21 17.1 E103 51 15.9 a bit south of Rd 6 and west of the Stoeng Siem Reap river - sorry no road name available.

    California 2 - Closing

    California 2 - Closing

May 5 2008 Jim is closing the best biker jaunt in town.

A great hotelier & host to itinerant bikers - as well as a tremendous photographer he has finally had to close in face of PP's spiraling property boom.

But ever the helpful hand he has posted the following info for those looking for places to stay & eat:

"While we are closed we can recommend the following.....
Tonys Guesthouse near the Central Market, Tonlesap Guesthouse and Pickled Parrot on Street 104, The Cozyna, Mekong Palace hotels just north of our current location.
Places to drink...Try Monsoon on Street 104, Adrian has plenty of country information.
Always a party at Sharky's on Street 130 and plenty of bike information as well."

Let's hope he decides to set up shop again soon.
In the meantime his website is a goldmine of information including GPS points.

+1 Nordic House in Banlung. Great little bungalows in lovely garden setting. Short walk to the beautiful crater lake (well worth a look). But the food is absolutely amazing, including the western food. Best pancakes in Asia. The Boss also rents a few Honda XR 250s and a DRZ 400 but I had a farked ankle when I was there so did not partake. Woulda been good though.

Also, if you are in Sihanoukville and want to do some dirt riding you should go and see Shiran at Stray Dog Asia. He does guided tours, 1 day or more, as well renting out his bikes. He has 5 or so Honda XR 250's that are all in good nick.

I did the one day guided tour and it was great fun. Some nice offroad action on some great "tracks" as well as some nice dirt road riding through the scenic rice paddies, finishing with a beer on the beach. Perfect.

He is on Serendipity beach, next to the Coolabah Restaurant (they also have a great quiz night on Monday nights so you check that out. They group the tourists together so it is more fun and nice to meet people).

    A few pics:

    California 2 has re-opened too
    http://www.cafecaliforniaphnompenh.com/

After a year and a half closure, California 2 Reopened it's doors on October 19th, 2009. We are now located at 79 Sisowath Quay, on the Riverfront, about a half kilometer north of our old location. Taxis will continue to try to tell you we are closed and will drive you by the old location and say we are closed. Obviously not the case. We are excited about our new establishment and will continue to offer Value to our customers.
As with the original California 2 we will offer more services and amenities, with the personal touch that we have become well known for.
Our first month or two of operation we expect to have a few bugs to work out but nothing that will make your experience at California 2 an unpleasant one. Information on this website is in progress as well and subject to change.
California 2 has built a reputation as being a bridge between Locals, Expats, Asia Hands and Travellers.
    Jim is also on Facebook
