555 555 Furyrider your first bike looks more like a lawn mower engine, hey we all had to start somewhere. My first bike was a 1967 Yamaha 305cc two stoke which I painted orange and purple ( I wanted something different 555 ) she kicked me off many times before I wised up and sold her.

I remember Rupp Mfg. And I had one of those centrifugal clutches on my Briggs and Stratton-powered, welded up go-kart...

The slickest mini-bike in our neighborhood was simple: a Briggs and Stratton 2-1/2 horse, with direct chain drive and a kill-switch. The thing was so easy to start, and had such low compression, that all you had to do was paddle with your feet until she caught, and you were away. Flip the kill-switch, drag your feet, and it stopped (mostly).

    Old times, good times.

My first bike was a 1970 Suzuki M31 55cc. I must have been all of about 10 or 11 years old. Crashed it in the first week and broke the forks so i replaced them with a BMX fork and bars from my bicycle. Used a brake lever to control the throttle and then had only a back brake. Probably drove the thing a few thousand miles before it started to give out. Ended up in a friends backyard somewhere and probably sits there to this day. After that was a Yamaha Razz 50cc 2 stroke scooter, followed by a Suzuki 175 Enduro 2-stroke. Addicted for life before the age of 13 and couldn't be happier.

1954(or thereabouts) Lambretta scooter. Fuel tank was between the handlebars and it had an interesting habit of only starting when it was cold. My particular scoot was a piece of junk of the highest order. I bought it from a dealer in scrap at the local tip. However, I rode it for almost two years before buying a Vespa...which, incidentally, was the subject of one of my many blunders with motorbikes. I swapped it for a 125cc BSA Bantam. How on earth did that little, squat, underpowered heap ever develop cult status?! Even more amazing....how come I continued riding given such a tenuous start?!

The Lambretta, Vespa and Beezer started me on a life of motorcycling. Since 1965, the longest period I have endured without owning my own bike is just three months. I've wasted a lot of money, but i'veadalottafunmate.

A '96 Honda 110cc Win bought two weeks ago in Hanoi. :P

Previously I've always just ridden friends bikes. Never really needed to have one to call my own.

A 96' Suzuki GSX-R 750, got it in 99' when I was 15. Had it for a week and sold it after I realized I'd probably kill myself on it. Bought a 80' Yamaha 650 which was much safer, then bought my first car with some of the left over cash, an 89' Pontiac Firebird.

This was my first bike, a 1969 BSA B25 250cc Starfire I bought in 1977. Lovely little bike. I put a shortie exhaust on it, blacked the engine and brush painted the tank and side panels….. I also passed my UK bike test on this bike and did an advanced riding course on it.

Second bike was a 1959 650cc Triumph Thunderbird, but never got it to run properly. My karma was to buy the same model bike of the same year, 15 years later in Thailand.

Third bike was a new 1978 model Triumph Bonnie T140V 750cc I bought in 1979. Beautiful bike which got nicked on exactly the day I finished paying for it, when it was a year old. I had also crashed it riding on black ice through the winter of ’79, coming back from a gig with the band I was playing in… drunk…..

In the eighties, I tried some Jap bikes, starting with a Yamaha XT250 which I toured Denmark, Germany and Holland on. Turned out to be a crap bike for touring….

So, I bought a 6 month old Suzuki Katana 1100cc for 2000 pounds and spent another 2000 pounds on a Yoshimura race kit; overbore to 1150cc, high comp pistons, stage 1 cams, 4 into one exhaust, together with smoothbore carbs and Dymag wheels. Nearly killed myself on it. A beast alright, but didn’t corner well. I raced to the south of France from north of Paris in a day, no sightseeing, just hard riding.

Then bought a lovely black and gold Ducati 900SS for 1200 quid and sold it 3 years later for 1800 quid. It used to go round corners on rails, sounded great and felt radical, long and slim.

Sold the last two bikes to buy a house in Thailand in ’85……… the rest is history…..!!!

My first bike was a Yamaha YZ60 back in 1982.

15hp for 50ish kilos, great fun for a mini bike.

    Then a YZ80 in 1992.

It was quite a monster with 27hp, and well equipped too

Got also a DT50 at the same time wich was my first road legal bike, what a boring bike when you are used to the ones above ....

My first real bike was a XT600, I still miss it

First time I rode a bike on my own I was 11 and got on an italjet 50 mx. Hit a wall on the the third lap of a dirt track and broke my leg. Started Comp Trials when I was 16 on a Yamaha TY 175. My TY was my first true bike and I loved it, although it took some amount of abuse and didn't love me back...

The first bike I rode was a Kawasaki GPZ 305. My first own bike was a BMW R-45 boxer. I loved it and kept it for years.
The joy of riding is not necessarily related to riding some fancy or fast & powerful bike.

A Honda 125CBT used to pass my UK Part II license after the CBT (Compulsory Basic Training). In 1991 I was the 8th owner and, driving around London, did 4000 miles in 6 months. I should have become a taxi driver although I still don't have a car license.

After getting a full bike licence this was the next machine. Not my photo but exactly the model and colour scheme.
