October 1993: Doi Mae Salong
A bit of a sleepy hollow then.

The hollow's got bigger - ATM + 7-11- but it is still relatively sleepy & one of my favourite over night destinations.Originally Posted by Marco

Hi Friends,
Amazing to see these Golden Oldies, you're really Pionneers !
Laurent Paris-Bangkok-
R1089, on the road to Doi Mae Salong from Tha Ton
Dumped it on one of the smaller steep rutted tracks between R1089 & R1234, trying to get to Doi Mae Salong another way. I understand this track is now asphalt.
Hanging out with the Yao gals at Pa Dua.
Doi Mae Salong
We used to stay at the old Mae Salong guesthouse & it was one of the grubbiest noisiest ghouses Ive ever stayed in.
But the morning wet market with all the Akhas was right outside the front door.
You had to park your bikes outside, & in the morning the market was set up around your bikes. Try & do that nowadays!

Interesting! I'm very pleased it's not like that anymore. My dirt track/offroad days are long over. DMS is still a lovely place though, always a bit "one horse" but all the better for that.
