    Gasohol 91 Versus Benzine 91 In A Honda Phantom



    I have been using gasohol 91 all of the time apart from when it wasnt available in the south, then gasohol 95 was used. Recently I changed over to Benzine to see if there was any difference, absolutely no difference in fuel economy whatsoever or performance either. Mine is the new model which is still a carburettor but designed to run on gasohol 91, so dont listen to the old anti gasohol crap, if its got 91 E10 stamped on the tank and owners book then use this as you are just throwing money down the drain by using benzine 91

    I agree with you! If manufacturer says its OK to use : then its OK to use. My Bonnie is to California spec (to comply with Thailands strict emmission laws????!!!!) & the handbook states its OK to use ethanol. I have never tried the 91, but it runs very well on the 95 & no difference in fuel consumption when I run it on 91 benzene.

    My Phantom is 5 or 6 years old, and it didn't take the gasohol too well. The engine would knock when I gave it some throttle.

    CAPTAIN SLASH.

    We seem to have the same opinion about Gasohol. I've never seen any difference in fuel consumption or performance.

    I saw a television ad for the SAAB Turbo flex fuel car in Finland TV last week and they advertised that they get 30 hp more with E85 due to the higher compression and better oxygen absorption with alcohol. Ok they didn't tell that the mpg is worse but the price is cheaper.

    I am surprised nobody else than you comment my post about the green solution for gasohol from Finland. I thought that at least Monsterman and Ian Bungy would have some opinions.

    I Have to say that i was hesitant to use gasohol in the begining in my beemer but after i consult Beemer Thailand, and as they confirm that it's ok to use gasohol 95,i used since then and have no problems at all
    So from 35thb per liter i can ride with 26thb per liter, same milage,same power,saving's 9thb per liter and 198thb per full tank for me, so that mean 7.6 L more fuel for me=100+km

    Thus you meant BMW bikes are compatible with Thai 95 gasohol ?

    Nooo,, i can only speak about 2004 LT model as i have no idea about others and do not wanna make falce statements, But i "Think" that new beemers are compatibles for anything, but i let that statement for those who riding with new models

    Hi Marco,

    Thanks for this indication, I would then address this issue to BMW Thailand as I will receive a brand new BMW and would like to know what kind of petrol to use in it.

    For the Ducati, I try to keep filling it with benzene 95 when available otherwise 91 works as well.

    For the Suzi DRZ, I tried everything and it works...

    "New Model" Phantom has Nothing New on it and has Ancient Technology and How Much exactly do You save Per Tank Hardly a Life Threatening Difference in Price is it 10 Baht per day saving Might Just Cost You a lot More in the Long Run if you kept the Bike Long enough

    Yes, but fluoroelastomers are comparably new and fuel lines need to be resistant to ethanol. Gasohol is an 'aggressive fuel' (weird term because regular fuel is so 'non' toxic, always laughed at that one) requiring changes to any part that might not be metal.

    Edit - have to add I was once a petroleum chemist having spent the last 5 years using mostly bio fuels. Amazing how simple vegetable oil can destroy a 10 year old vehicles fuels lines and injection pump seals. And if you believe the big fancy terms company's throw around for new polymers technology, you'd never consider throwing biodiesel or gasohol into your motor. Truly by their information you'd be jumping off a cliff by putting Gasohol into your 2000 Yamaha and down right hanging yourself by filling up your 1999 Hilux with biodiesel.

    I also read captain slash's post and used gasohol 91 for about 3 months I liked in the beginning I thought i saved on gas but i realized performance and mileage dropped considerably ( 330k + full tank down to 300k or less) went back to regular 91 I ride phantom 22.000 k on it I love it, great bike for Thailand, drink one less beer a day but no cheap gas on my bike

    Yes its good for a FI bike as long as the bike in question is designed to use gasohol

    I used gasohol in my new 2011 fuel injection bike. Tank stickers and manual gasohol say it is fine up to 10%.

    After sitting for more than 2-3 hours it would nearly always cut out on idle just after starting it up.

    Changed to benzine and it didn't happen once.

    Haven't changed back to gasohol since then.
