Hello to all

At november, our second 4x4 Tour will start - for North of Thailand, and one Week of Laos.

Maybee you remember my German Tripreport: http://www.gt-rider.com/thailand-motorc ... t5667.html

I have buyed all GT-Rider Paper Maps for Norththailand, but its good to have a backup Solution with GPS.

Last time i rent a Garmin Nüvi GPS for 200 Bath /day with the actual Garmin Source of thailand. Now i have a Nüvi at home, searching for GPS Maps for it.

I hope it gives GPS Maps with the GT-Rider information?

I found here the rotweilermaps.com - does they have Offroad information?

Or can i Pretest the GPS GT Rider Maps?

For the Laos GPS map see http://www.eaglegps.co.th/ and scroll down a bit where you will find information or send an email to info@eaglegps.co.th This is the same company (in Panthip Plaza Chiangmai) where you did rent the Nuvi GPS last time

They also sell the Laos as well as maps for other areas produced by GT Riders.

There is an excellent free routable gps map available on http://mapcenter2.cgpsmapper.com. Click your way through to North Thailand road map.

I have incorporated an older version of this (with permission, of course) into the Wanderlust project. Bob tells me that the Thailand part of the map will be free, but it hasn't been released yet.

Bad news on the two links I posted above: Macenter2 has been down for months and it may never come back, although the old mapcenter did. You can get a copy of KC Loh's N Thailand map from the author in the malsingmaps.com forum.

The Wanderlust maps have so far not materialised.

Now for the good news: routable free maps for anywhere can be had here. You can add roads or fix errors yourself on OSM and the updates will show normally in about two weeks.

Another source for free routable maps is CloudMade. Twice a month they publish extracts from the Open Street Map (OSM) for countries. The latest map for Laos is here: http://downloads.cloudmade.com/asia/laos with the map ready for the GPS (gmapsupp.img) here: http://downloads.cloudmade.com/asia/laos/laos.img.zip
