    Nan - Devaraj hotel
I also liked the Devaraj as a "standard" thai hotel. Paid THB 550, with only one breakfast (September 2009).

By the way, I was happy to get fresh coffee next door (the brown house on the picture) whilst waiting for the end of a downpour.

Jürgen thanks for the pic of the place you had a coffee in Nan. Its a hotel, too. I was told it's the only 3 storey hotel made from wood. Very impressive large building, indeed. I arrived late night and they offered me their last room with 6 beds for the rate of a single. Rooms are huge (high ceiling is cool) with shower/toilets, simple, strict rules (all shoes downstairs), but clean, large communal space on each floor, ideal to meet other travellers. Bike right in front of the entrance and the eyes of the night guard.

Yeap, The hotel made from teak is where we stayed... and then went next door for the 99baht baffet breakfast...

The owner had only recently bought it and was setting about fixing it up a little, but intends to knock it down and rebuild it I think... so not much money will be going into it until then...

I was a bit concerned that the combination of low maintanence and old wiring in a wood hotel didn't bode well, but the other guys did like the 'authenticity' of the experience...

Was willing to let us park the bikes inside which was a bit of a bonus, although I don't know how necessary in Nan...

    Cheers,

I am always happy to get tips from bikers about hotel/ guest houses. I choose Devaraj because I had no other information at that moment Now there are more addresses on this GTR thread, so that I might make another choice next time

    Dhevaraj Hotel

Have stayed at the Deveraj several times & have always been satisfied. Reasonably priced, secure parking, friendly & helpful staff & easy to find!

'authenticity' is one way to put it. In almost any larger town in Thailand you find those economically attractive hotels (bed bunkers we used to call them, I omit the nationality for political correctness), and I was happy about them in so many circumstances. You find them more and more.

But a hotel, even a 3 storey hotel made out of wood you wont find anymore in a few years - or then an exorbitant costs. So I enjoyed and will benefit from his services again before the end of this month.

If anyone has any updates on accommodation in Nan, I would be most grateful.
From what I see on this thread, it looks like Dhevaraj Hotel is the go.

    Sasidara Resort

Last week in Nan I stayed at the Sasidara Resort. 1000 Baht p/n with brekkie and very comfortable indeed.
    http://www.sasidararesort.com/home.html

Behind the Sasidara is a new small resort which has cabins and they will be asking 700 Baht a night the owner told me. No breakkie I think.

We stayed at The Dhevaraj during Songkhran, but checked out after one night.
It is the only place in Thailand where we actually kept our shoes on to cross the carpet to go to the bathroom. I'm sure a whole series of NCIS could be gained from the forensics off the floor.
A newly refurbed hotel with parking a few hundred metres from Just Jazz restaurant will imo become the hotel of choice for bikers, The Sukkasem, 119-121 Anantavorarittidet Rd, has all the mod cons -decent beds, linen, flat panel TVs etc- and for the moment reasonable prices.

On your recommendation, we stayed at the Sukasem as well. Quite pleased. An easy walk to Hot Bread or Just Jazz for breakfast.

I have been staying at NAN GUESTHOUSE for almost 4 months now. The place is quiet, they lock the bikes behind a gate at night. Free wifi, drinking water and a pc which could be used if needed. The place is a few hundred meters from Hot Bread and near the public library. Sorry, no photos.

The place is okay and the Cafe de Zeven next door has low prices and the grub is good. I can recommend omlette, fried veggies and Mango shakes.

    Re: Nan Accommodation

Devraj was asking around 700 Baht for a standard room with breakfast. I went to Nan GH - fan room without attached bathroom 290 Baht & fan room with attached bathroom 320 Baht.

Just up the road from the Nan GH at the intersection of the soi with the main road is Phai Luang GH. Its consists of two refurbished old houses and the rooms have an antique feel with new bathroom fixtures. They had fan rooms with attached bathroom at 250 Baht and a/c rooms for 350 Baht. It has a parking in front and at the back. Really cool place with a friendly vibe.
