Don't think these are particularly great - just your standard GS (which of course is great) in white and red.

The extras are just gimmicks. 3D logo on the seat. Wow! I hope they're not charging anything extra for that!

    :P

Nevertheless thanks for the link. I think the GS is due for a design makeover. Seems like they haven't changed it in years and while it still looks bad-ass, I expect BMW to be at the very top of the heap when it comes to design.

I've always been interested in how much discount Thais can negotiate off a new bike.

When at Barcelona BMW during the week (with a new arrival who was checking a 1200GS), I got talking
with a young Thai guy from Pichit who had just taken delivery of a new 'Anniversary 800GS'.
We got talking about touring and during the conversation he said he managed to negotiate a 4% discount
off the retail price of his 800, so I guess that's a reasonable reference point.

Still way too expensive for me though.
And my Africa Twin suits me just fine.

My experience in Thailand is that discounts are rare, except at those tourist places where they start out with 3x the fair price. The reason is that commissions are very small on vehicles. There isn't much room.

It's also my experience that farang or Thai doesn't matter at all. In fact the crazy farangs often get better deals because they are not so concerned about manners or saving face.

A 'Farang' doesn't have to be 'crazy' or 'impolite' to negotiate a good deal.
    Nor do Thais.

Absolutely agree. Didn't want to advise bad behavior (which in most cases will get you nowhere) but I was thinking about some Israeli tourists. They didn't make friends but they did get some stupid deals.

I didn't say anything about impolite either. But I do know that some Thais just won't negotiate - out of good manners.

There's no trick to negotiating really, you just have to know the price...

Ron/Nick can be the opposite too. Just got a very old Accord for Fiu from a Thai seller, he put it up at THB 85k, went to see the car, made up my mind that that's a fair price but me maybe too Thai already said: ok I'll take it but not for 85, so we settled at 83. Funny the seller was surprised and asked how long I've been here, I told him and he made a face and said, you've adopted well I see. Thais are very good sometimes at haggling , think that's nothing about nationality but individuals. When my mom comes over to LOS, somtimes I'm ashamed on how hard she drives a bargain, more fitting for the bazaars of India then here ......Anyway, everytime I bought a vehicle in Thailand I got a discount, sometimes not in money terms but in freebies as the whole range of accessoiries for my Focus for example.....Rgds, Franz

    Hi Friends,

Watching you discussing around ways of bargaining in LOS, I wonder if some are invested with a development mission for the Fair Trade.... Of course a deal should be sustainable and equitable, but for whom ?

Who will feed the otherone whn the wallet will be empty ?

Big question, may be you could help me to find the answer...

Re discounts and Barcelona Motors, my experience, and I am sure it is not different for Thai or Farang, is that if you get a discount on the bike, you will not get "free" insurance, tax or registration. I got these free with my F800GS, and also the S1000RR and did manage to get a BMW tail pack for the sports bike, that was after several back and fro conversations between Khun Kumphon and the boss of Barcelona. I was later informed that only bikes which are not selling will be discounted here, and neither of the ones I have bought come in that category. They did offer me low interest rate credit, as I had already paid off one agreement, but I was not interested in that.
