    Riding around Tachileik

The much anticipated trip to the Golden Land of Myanmar, probably the least well explored country in South East Asia. The crossing only restricted us to venture the town of Tachilek, east of Shan State.

    Mae Sai border

Thailand side requires lots of papers

    Tachileik border

    100 baht for Myanmar insurance

    His wish is my command

And we're in. Cost us 500 baht for Visa on arrival, 100 baht for Motor Insurance and another 25 baht each for a fee which I have no clue what it's all about. Plus 1000 baht for the services of a guide per group.

This exclusive parking costs us 50baht.

Our stay. 1000 baht for a room which accomodates 3. No one's complaining.

The river that marks the boundaries

    The room

    Local car

    Streets of Tachileik

    A visit to the temple

The aftermath of the recent earthquake

The boundary gate that must be the shortest way to the rest of the world. Our ride is restricted by that post and armed military officers.

    Papabread and Haris fooling around

    Slim, our local guide

Stopped by a golf resort for some drinks

While the 2 GS hit some dirt.

    A local mosque

    Dinner

    Time to leave

    One last shot in Tachileik

    Returning our temporary passport

So long Tachileik, it was a nice experience.

Back for more paperworks at Thailand border

Probably will inquire about entry at Mae Sot border once they re-opens.

Am trying to inquire further. Need to find the relevant authorities for that special and precious permit.

Very interesting what you guys have done. Can you give us soem more details? From the insurance papers it looks like you were 5 days in Myanmar? How for could you ride in to the countryside or were you only allowed to stay in town.

Would like to know more if possible.

Not much luck on venturing further. We were only allowed to travel within Tachileik. We were told we could go on to the next town of Kyiang Tung but on public transport.
