Round the World on a Vespa (from Chiang Mai Mail today)

Round the world trip - on a Vespa?

    Drew Milne and the Vespa.
" .......... while we were there, up rolls a Vespa motor scooter, ridden by an Aussie Drew Milne. Drew, it turned out, was a former Formula Ford champion in South Australia, and that was why he stopped when he saw the Securitas race Escort.

Drew is on a ride to London from Adelaide, which he estimates will take eight months - or so! The scooter is equipped with GPS, and has an alloy box at the back for keeping toothpaste and shaving gear.

It was great to see that the pioneering spirit hasn’t been bred out of the young Aussies these days, and you can find Drew at facebook.com/vescapade or drewmilne33@gmail.com. "
A truly happy rider is one who can enjoy the scenery along a detour.

Thanks for the headsup with this trip Ron.

Good Luck with the ride Drew.
In many ways the smaller, though slower, can be better.

This guy Nate did it on an Aussie Postie Honda
    a year or two back.

I can't believe it. Has anyone done a world trip on motorbike/scooter with less belongings?
I also admire the guts because only to get spare tires for that scooter will not be easy.
Plus I'm thinking of the millions of gigantic potholes just waiting to swallow these cute, little scooter wheels.
Wishing you all the luck in the world, Drew!

Curious to know how hes going to manage the Burma / China / Tibet blockage.. Always seems those present a barrier to just keeping moving..

    Hey guys! Drew Milne here..

Thanks for the kind words. Thought I'd drop by and check out the site.

LivinLOS: I got through this area by shipping the bike out from Bangkok to Kathmandu and then flying after it. A pity to jump such an interesting area but that's how things are.

Am currently in Nepal and working up the courage to negotiate India. I just did a side trip (minus the bike) to Tibet, an amazing place!

Feel free to check out my pictures on my facebook site at: www.facebook.com/vescapade
My website at www.vescapade.com is currently a mess - when I get some time I'll give it an overhaul and do it properly.

    Meanwhile.. did someone say potholes?
