2012 Triumphs (from today's Bangkok Post)

    Triumph's 2012 editions

Britbike, the official importer of Triumph motorcycles in Thailand, is launching three new models tomorrow with special introductory prices

    TIGER 800 XC

    Price: 740,000 baht
    Engine: 95hp 799cc inline-three
Highlights: ABS system can be turned off and there's an adjustable 45mm suspension with bigger 21-inch spoke wheel. Plus, a 19-litre gasoline tank should give you an extra miles while going on a long trip.
We think: This bike that can do it all. Tough. Rugged. Built to last.

    STREET TRIPLE R

    Price: 650,000 baht
    Engine: 106hp 675cc inline-three
Highlights: It weighs only 189kg and has a standard 80.5cm seat height that fits Thai riders nicely. There's an adjustable suspension system and improved options for the brakes. New controversial bug-eye lamps replace circular ones.
We think: An easy-to-ride "naked" sports bike that has thrills on the limit.

    DAYTONA 675 R

    Price: 800,000 baht
    Engine: 124hp 675cc inline-three
Highlights: This R type comes with racing options from Triumph: adjustable suspension, front 43mm Ohlins NIX30, plus 308mm front discs brakes from Brembo and 220mm rear one from Nissin.
We think: A dream bike for many since since it won many awards in Europe for one of the best superbikes.

I had a Daytona 675 in UK and would love another one, but at those prices absolutely no way. Ridiculous!!

My old UK dealer has the 675 R for sale at GBP 9800 inc. all taxes, registration, the lot and a very competent workshop crew to look after it. Thai price is 800,000 THB (= GBP 16670 at current exchange rates) which is an increase of 70%. I'll stick with something far less exotic and, in all likelihood, far more practical for Thailand. I can't imagine it'd be easy to get a reliable mechanic for a bike like this outside BKK, CM and similar very large cities - certainly not in my neck of the woods.

Having an attitude seems to be a requirement for running a motorbike shop in CM. Not sure why...

Love those bikes, but the prices are a joke, esp. since they're made (assembled, whatever) in Thailand. Come on Triumph, get it together. Ducati is going to walk all over these guys in SEA...

    Hey Nikster
If you haven't already go to the other side of the moat and by a Kawasaki Versys even with the add ons you want you will pay less than half and you and your pocket will be happy.
I have a Ninja and for the money compared to any thing else in Thailand price wise I could not be happier and yes I do go all over Thailand 2 up.

Agreed actually I've had a Versys since November 2010, got one of the first ones to arrive in CM. Prior to that I had a D-Tracker (2009) and a ER-6n (2010). Riding it every day in CM. It's a great bike, for sure.

I still think those Triumphs are gorgeous though. The Tiger 800 (street version not the one pictured) I think would be like a Versys with a few more HP - my only gripe with the Versys is the top end. Not that I want to go that fast often, but I rather liked the ER-6n top end and the Versys isn't close. Then again neither's a supermoto so I am also keeping an eye on the KTM 690 SMC/SMR... even maybe a D-Tracker if there's a way to give it a few more HP... why doesn't Kawasaki make a proper supermoto, I wonder...
