On 16-12-07, some friends entered Laos at Veun Kham, coming from Stung Treng on Cambo registered bikes.
Laos side still very casual and no paperwork/insurance issued for the bikes. |

My friends that went through last month didnt need a permit from Stung Treng.
They toured throughout Laos without permits or insurance that is usually issued at the more formal border entries.
Personally, I would be looking to get legit at Pakse , if possible, or entering at Thakek where all the required paperwork is available at the border, and they let bikes enter |
