Having seen him modeling with his python in the camp in Mae Kok is it a wonder why?
Seriously though - this is Great Reportage.
Tremendous riding adventures, with really funny writing and great pix.
You do realise however, that we now need a 2008 update?

Gents,
Thanks for the reminder, I had completely forgot that this report was still idleing awaiting completion. 'Tis a habit, ask the ex-wife.
Mot - the quick answer is yes I did make my way to Phonsovan as well.
Rhodie - Awaiting the storms to soften their assault on Laos before heading back for some more exploration. The place is supposedly under water at this point with all the rain. Off road it'd be a tad mucky I fear. _________________ Cheers all.

B&T-
Somehow I missed this last segment of your post and just read it now. A great write up and story and one I can actually let my daughter read without having to censor it first. Very good job.
It is disheartening to see how even in the most remote spots there are those that are still intent on scamming the foreigner. It is fortunate all the other smiling faces seem to make up for it in most cases. _________________ DaveEarly.com

Unfortunately...Even for those speaking lao.I wonder how much you gave to the "security agents" BignTall?
And what about your german friends ?

our german " friends" were very unhelpful and offered no help or financial assistance until the inebriated brit and yankee had to literally prize it out of their limpet like grips.
if i remember correctly, and there is no guarantee of that as the local lao kao had accounted for my soberness a long while back it was in the region of 50,000kip per bike! _________________ "theres always a coyote at the end of the tunnel" - a wise man once slurred. MR. |

The sad fact of the matter is we were going to be generous the next morning in terms of paying for the food and a nights kip in their hut anyway. The blackmailing just made handing over money a sour affair instead of a thankful gesture it should of been. _________________ Cheers all.
