What's next for big bikes from Kawa?

We know The ER-6n is here, next are

- ER-6f
- ZX-10R

Anyone know if the Versys is coming? That would be an interesting alternative to the ER-6n for me.

Hey man I have been thinking the same lately " what's next ? "
I was told by CM dealer next is ZX-10R.
My own opinion is the Versey won't happen it will affect ER-6N sales. Now they have some good deals flood the market with KLX 250's and after approx 1 year they will start selling the fuel injected KLR 650 for approx 215,000 baht - thats what I am hoping anyhow.

If the Japanese Yen maintains it's current strength you'll be looking at a price closer to 700,000 THB imho...

What's next? - Good Question!
Maybe Kawasaki should come up with different models with the same engines, like Triumph does. Last time I looked at Triumphs I saw several different models but they all had the same 900cc parallel twin engine. Or the triple which can be found in all states of tune in all kinds of bikes. Maybe that's what Kawasaki should do - they already have some good engines with EFI that are legal here in Thailand. So what would be your suggestion?
Mine would be a enduro / supermoto combo like the KLX / D- Tracker but with the twin from the Ninja 250. Unrealistic since that might take sales away from the singles. But an enduro with a 250 twin would be something, like the old KLE 250 they built for quite some time: http://www.bikepics.com/kawasaki/kle250/
So maybe a naked bike with a Ninja twin, relaxed seating position, where you could actually take a passenger with you? Or a cruiser which would be the only 250cc cruiser for sale in TH - forget the Phantom, forget grey import 400 Steeds, get a legal baby chopper with lots of chrome for 170.000 THB!
What about the 650 twin engine? Everybody is looking for a used Africa Twin - how about a new KLX650 Twin in "Africa Twin look" for 230.000 THB? Not the Versys, though, but something with a small fairing you could really travel with. Or a 650 supermoto? A D-Tracker on steroids with a 650 twin, now that would be something I'd spend my money on...

Hey KZ we can all hope same as you but a KLR650 or a KLR650 twin would both be attractive to me and I am sure many others, for approx 230K - a dream in Thailand

There was a ZX-10R in the Pattaya showroom on Sukhumvit on 14th Feb. 650000 baht sounds about right from what I recall. I was at the opening party on 14th Feb. complete with 3 piece Vannesa May style violin band and the mayor of Pattaya! I spoke to the Japanese head of Kawasaki and pointed out the the low power output of the KLX 250 / D Tracker. He assured me something is being done, but Kawasaki have to be very careful about the emission control laws. The Pattaya showroom is being set up with a accessories shop next door. Maybe we will find the ECU / exhaust in here in the near future!!

"Emission control laws" - having lived in California these three words really get me wound up! Most people drive a V8 with 4000cc or more and those emission clowns have nothing better to do than to strangle a 250cc motorcycle. If the D-Tracker would run perfectly, as it should, maybe more diesel truck drivers stinking up the air and clogging traffic would ride a 250cc bike instead! I mean, is restricting a tiny bike's revs really a smart way to preserve clean air? Considering the small fraction of 250cc bikes. Looks more like a bunch of shirts coming up with unrealistic laws as a result of too many talks and meetings...

Any news on this topic ? No announcement of a bigger KL style bike(s) ? Seems kawasaki has a big success with their ER-6N but about bigger off-road bikes ?

I was at kawasaki Rayong factory last week.
In their value engineering department they had a +/- 650cc dual-sport style bike. They would not talk about when or even whether it would be released in Thailand... but it is there.

Interestingly enough.. white model ER6's are not being sold in Thailand as they will be provided to the police only in that colour.

Hmm, I wonder what a "value engineering department" is...
The KL650 is assembled in TH as far as I know, so it shouldn't be a big surprise to see one here. It's a long shot to being sold here, but if, it should be a bit cheaper than the Er6n, which would be very interesting!

I can't say anything specific.... we have confidentiality agreements. My company designs, develops and sells very specific parts to brand motorcycle customers.

We were lucky enough to be shown the VE department as they had a ER6N in there and I had just bought one.

As another post says... the issue will be whether it is viable to release.

There is definately a trailie in there, but whether it gets a release will be down to demand. We should all do everything possible to give Kawasaki feedback that we want a big (but good) enduro/dual sport machine.

I tell the Kawasaki sales staff every chance I get that they should offer more models here in Thailand. I tell 'em I'll be the first to put down a deposit on the ER6f when it becomes available. They keep asking me if I'm interested in the Ninja ZX10R. I tell 'em honestly that it's a bit out of my price range and not well quited to the type of riding I do. But I know they have a lot of rich Thais who REALLY want the ZX10R so hopefully it will happen sooner or later.

Kawasaki Thailand actively sought customer input on whether or not to offer ABS on the upcoming ER6f and it seems they are listening.
As for the KLR650, I do believe it will be on display at the Bangkok Motor Show. While it's not a bike I'm interested in, I will let the kind folks at Kawasaki Rama 9 know that there are a lot of people interested.
Seems it would be an awesome bike for northern Thailand and neighboring countries.

Now we know - NO KLR650 - got it direct from the horses mouth. So no more gossip & speculation - "I heard that / the rumour is."

Glad you guys are getting responses from Kawasaki.
