Phan District

Phan is both a town and a district in the southern part of Chiang Rai Province, northern Thailand.

Neighboring districts are Wiang Pa Pao, Mae Suai, Mae Lao, Mueang Chiang Rai, Pa Daet of Chiang Rai Province, Mae Chai of Phayao province and Wang Nuea of Lampang Province.

Phan has several interesting temples, amongst which are;

Doi Luang National Park

This forested park is located approx 6o km south of Chiang Rai city. The Park covers an area of 1,170 sq.km. There are hiking trails and a camping ground. The park has several waterfalls.

Location: from Chiang Rai, drive south towrds Phayao on Highway 1 for 58 km, to Ban Pu Kaeng. At Km Marker 773, turn right and travel approx 9 km. to the National Park office.

Pu Kaeng Waterfall

Pu Kaeng waterfall is the largest, and this fall has nine cascades and flows all year round. Caves with stalagmites and stalactites are located behind the 5th and 9th level waterfalls.

Cham Pa Thong Waterfall

The water that sprays over this steep waterfall is said to resemble the head and ivory of an  elephant.

Wang Kaew Waterfall

These falls are one of the most beautiful in the park, with water flowing all year.

Tham Nang Phaya Pang

Tham Nang Phaya Pang Din Fai is a cave located on the way to Wang Kaew Waterfall. The cave has some nice stalagmites and stalactites.
