Accommodation update 29 October 2020

Palm House in Mae Hong Son still has 2 x twin bed rooms & 1 x 3-bed room available in the new block, plus several rooms in the old block.

The long neck musicians will be playing & singing on a mini stage set up in front of the banner by the pool.

The Dwarfs banner for use on the road - one at the PTT start & one at the designated lunch stop.

PROGRAM 2020 GTR 12TH ANNUAL MHS MEMORIAL RIDE.

OUTLINE

Rendezvous at the PTT Nam Phrae on the canal road, R3035, south of Chiang Mai.
Location: Google Maps

Rendezvous time 7AM
7.20AM: Short briefing & group photo.
7.45AM first bikes depart
Follow the canal road to R108 & turn right to take R108 to MHS.

Lunch is the same as last year & set up at the coffee view point above Mae La Noi.

We want everyone in MHS at the PTT by 3PM

At 3.30PM depart to the GTR Chedi with a police escort
The temple & chedi ceremonies start at 4PM.
Everyone should participate in these ceremonies!

Emergency Service Back Up Vehicles.
There are two vehicles.

1. Back up service vehicle, a pick up, following the group to assist with any breakdowns.
2. Emergency medical vehicle – ambulance with doctor & nurses – organised by the MHS TAT & MHS provincial hospitals to follow the group, starting from Hot to MHS.

ENTRY FEE
Because of the group size and inconvenience paying individually for the lunch stop & dinner we request all participants pay a starting fee of 1,000 baht / 1,200 baht with breakfast. This money will be collected at the start at the PTT Nam Phrae.

This covers
Lunch excluding drinks: 50 baht
Dinner excluding drinks: 300 baht. Please check the menu – the food line up is excellent.
Temple donation & service fees: 650 baht

• Back up service vehicle
• Ambulance & medical staff
• Entertainment at the Piya dinner

Optional buffet breakfast at the Salween 200 baht extra. Please check the menu – the breakfast food line up is excellent.

Ex PTT Nam Phrae 7.45 AM

Don’t ride as a convoy. Riders are advised to form your own group and ride at their own pace.
Ride at a pace that is comfortable for you & your little group.

We recommend ride straight to Mae Sarieng.
Do not stop in Hot only 74 kms away.
Ride straight through to Mae Sarieng.

PPT Nam Phrae – Mae Sarieng = 177 kms / 2 hrs 45 minutes
ETA Mae Sarieng PTT = 10.30 AM
Location PTT Mae Sarieng: Google Maps
Stop 15 minutes fuel up.
Depart Mae Sarieng 10.45 AM
(Next fuel stop MHS. PTT Mae Sarieng – PTT MHS = 161 kms.)

Mae Sarieng to Mae La Noi = 29 kms / 20 minutes.
Depart PTT Mae Sarieng 10.45 AM
ETA Mae La Noi = 11.05 AM.
Early lunch stop at the Coffee Veiwpont overlooking Mae La Noi.

Mae Na Noi Lunch approx 25 minutes

Mae La Noi Lunch is available from 11AM
Lunch is paid for in your entry fee.
Please eat up & move on as there wont be seating for everyone.

MAE HONG SON - THE PROGRAM

MHS Outline
Rendezvous at the PTT. Take a group photo with the police.
3pm proceed to the GTR chedi with a police escort.
4pm conduct the ceremonies at the temple.

1. Park the bikes at the GTR Chedi & have a brief history about the GTR chedi.
2. Walk down the hill to the sala & conduct the main ceremony.
3. Walk back up to the Chedi, for a brief Chedi ceremony & a group photo with the monks.
4. Disperse, check into your hotel & meet up at the Piya guesthouse for dinner.

Parking at the Chedi
Please spread out riding up to the chedi.
There are two narrow, steep sections with tight turns.
We don't want riders getting baulked by other riders & stalling on the slope.
Pay attention when parking your bikes at the chedi.
Park your bikes in a line, to form an avenue on both sides of the path to the chedi.
Line up the bikes on the right hand side first, then the left side.
Someone will be there to guide you parking the bikes.

Dinner & Music is at Piya GH

1. Dinner is a buffet & supplied by the Salween Restaurant. Tables & chairs will be set up around the pool.
2. Dinner, excluding drinks, is paid for in your entry fee. See the dinner menu below.
3. Tables & chairs for 60 people will be set up in the garden around the pool.
4. A small bar will be set up by the poolside sala. Please pay as you order. There will be Leo beer on supply @ 90 baht a big bottle. Waitresses will be taking beer orders & serving

Optional MHS GTR Memorial Ride Certificate
The Mae Hong Son Chamber of Commerce issues a certificate to people who go to MHS.
It reads like this: “Mr Valentino Rossi” has conquered 1864 curves to Mae Hong Son.
For the GTR MHS Memorial Ride they will issue a special certificate with the added words
“Mr Valentino Rossi” Attended the 12th Annual GTR MHS Memorial Ride 2020 & conquered 1864 curves to Mae Hong Son.
If you want a certificate we require your name in advance for the MHS Chamber of Commerce to prepare them.

Traffic & Roads
The road is 4-lane all the way to Hot 74 kms.
The traffic through Chomthong city is congested & slow.
R108 from Hot to the Mae Chaem turn off can be busy.
R108 from the Om Koi turn off is bumpy asphalt on the ridge line.
R108 from Mae Sarieng to Mae Hong is a beautiful surface.

Fuel Stops

1. PTT Nam Phrae at the start. Google Maps
