10 waterfalls to escape Vietnam's summer heat - VnExpress International

1. Ban Gioc Waterfalls, Cao Bang
Ban-Gioc-Detian-Falls2.jpg

Ban Gioc straddles the Vietnam-China border and is the fourth largest waterfall along a national border, after Iguazu Falls, Victoria Falls and Niagara Falls. The falls look at their most majestic during the rainy season from June to September, dropping up to 30m (98 ft).

2. Love Waterfall, Lao Cai
Love Waterfall Lao Cai.jpg

Love Waterfall leads water from the top of Fansipan down a 100m drop and sits 1,800m above sea level. The falls bear the tragic forbidden love story of a fairy and a woodcutter named O Quy Ho, the eldest son of a local mountain God.

3. Silver Waterfall, Lao Cai

Just a two-kilometer ride from Love Waterfall, Silver Falls is known for its cool, bubbly stream that drops over 200 meters. Want a place to swim and splash?

4. Dray Nur Waterfall, Dak Lak

To get to Dray Nur, it takes an hour of dusty driving from Buon Ma Thuot through a range of rocky mountains and majestic forests. The result? Breathtaking

5. Dray Sap Waterfall, Dak Nong
Dhac-dray-sap.jpg

Dray Sap sprays up white foam just 20km away from its brother, Dray Nur. It takes another dusty adventure to get to this pristine gem, but if you are determined to conquer the Central Highlands, this is a must-go

6. Thuy Tien Waterfall, Dak Lak
Thac-thuy-tien.jpg

Thuy Tien is a kilometer wide with multiple stages of falls, where it's easy to dip your feet in the cool water and walk around leisurely. It's more than an hour's drive from Buon Ma Thuot.

7. Phu Cuong Waterfall, Gia Lai
Phu Cuong Waterfall.jpg

Phu Cuong lies inside an almost abandoned eco-tourism area and is no longer touristy, making it even more intriguing for its pristine scenery of foaming water and lava fall on an extinct volcano.

8. Datanla Waterfall, Lam Dong

For those who are after an adrenaline rush, Datanla is the place to be just 10km outside Da Lat. Lying in the middle of romantic pine forests, Datanla offers a cable car, rope climbing and water slides to complete the experience

9. Pongour Waterfall, Lam Dong

Also known as the Seven-Level Falls, the mesmerizing Pongour is about 50km from Da Lat. The waterfall has seven layers of rock and is 40 meters high, making it one of the most beautiful falls in the Central Highlands.

10. Yang Bay Waterfall, Khanh Hoa

If you are on day three of your trip in Nha Trang, it could be worthwhile straying a bit further from the sunny beaches. Yang Bay Falls is in the middle of the Yang Bay Tourism Park, an area of rocky mountains, wild animals and gushing streams

Ban Gioc is a nice spot, but for mine Dray Nur is outstanding. There's coverage in my report on Buon Ma Thuot (which includes several other water falls in the area).

Everyone rushes up to Sapa.....there's so much more to be seen in VN.

Thanks for the tip off Rod.
You have so many good tips & info in all your reports it is amazing.
If you want to dig out any more waterfall images & add them so this post please do.
It would be cool to see them all in one spot on a waterfall thread.

P.S.l I hope all is well on Bora Bora.

Ban Gioc

This waterfall is called Detain waterfall on the Chinese side.

Location GPS .... 22.853218 106.72689

The below pictures are from the Chinese side and IMO is a better side to view from.

Mainly because there is more available Hotels,Restaurants etc.

There are ferry services that allow people to travel over to Vietnam/China.

Also, there is a Vietnamese Market which is set up not sure if it was on Chinese land or Vietnam lane.

Looking across to the Vietnam side the roads connecting the waterfall looks like Dirt roads.
Compared to the Chinese side which is fully connected to main roads locally.

What side you view it from would depend on which country you are in at the time.
But it worth a look IMO.

Wonderful photos....stunning Vietnam.

Sadly too many miss this beautiful country whilst pottering around elsewhere in SE Asia.

Dray Nur Waterfall looks truly stunning! Also looks like it is not packed with foreign tourists (yet).

My original plan was to drive a motorbike from North to Central Vietnam, but this is another reason to continue further South I think.

all that's missing is a beer in hand?

From memory beer was available freely in Vietnam, even at the stalls at the waterfall, we stayed at that resort only 200m away so it wasn't long until I had a beer in my hand lol
