Testing for coffee....

I remember that once upon a time you were happy if you could just get a cup of instant Nescafe & some evaporated milk.
But nowadays there's been an explosion of the coffee scene & cool funky coffee shops.
There are some real beauties out there, & a few lemons of course.

But I thought why not have a thread for your recommended good coffee stops on the Mae Hong Son Loop....

And what got me going about this was Suan Mokfa on R1095.
I stopped in there on the way home from Pai a few days ago & had what I thought was the best coffee ever.
Maybe I was too hungry, tired, thirsty but the coffee just seemed to melt in my mouth like honey.
It tasted that good - a cappuccino it was too.

Now so impressed I was that I rode back out their today just for a cuppa or two & a quick meal.

SUAN MOKFA

What you see from the road.

No name in English, but just look for the Organic Coffee Signs.

They do nice very tasty food too. Clean, smart presentation

300643=22515-GTR-SuanMokfah-08.jpg

& it tastes as as good as it looks.

A new dish for me that I liked the look of in the photo

Kow Yam Pak Tai

& how you eat it.

& the taste was sensational.
It is definitely different & delights the taste buds with various fresh flavours.
I will be back for more!

The distance from Mae Rim 35 kms & it is worth it!!
I shall return.

I agree about the coffee there David, it is one the best I've ever tasted and nearly always stop in there if I'm nearby!
Was over there a week or two back but didn't have time to check Mok Fah waterfall next door but it should have a good run on now!

Good idea.
Maybe you can convince the “Gizzmo-wizzard” in BKK to make a waypoint collection of GT-Rider approved coffee shops.

Hello David,

Since I red your thread last year on :Mokfah organic coffe,I patronize this place at least once a week during my winter stay in Mae Malai

The rest of the menu is also superb. The owner and his family are very friendly people.

Last mid March 3 Malaysian couples on Harleys en route to Pai,stopped for lunch and coffee(They, too, had seen your post)
The owner told me he will be closed few months after Songkhran as there is less traffic then.

Cheers, Lung.

At the turn off to Mok Chom Pae
Gudday David,

This one was a little harder to find, guess you are keeping them secret :)

A half hour with Google Maps and your Mae Hong Son map gave me N19 25.46 E97 58.81

Looking forward to trying the SUAN MOKFA and the Chiang Thai in December.

Personally, I've always enjoyed the Green Food Coffee about 700 m East of Suan Mokfa. One of the earliest organic coffee shops, and their iced Mocha's are good.

Good to know you're watching closely; but it's no secret if you re read the first post

Just look for the Organic Coffee signs & if you have a GTR MHS Loop map it is on the map.
IMHO it is a mistake to solely rely on google maps or a GPS.
You should always have & consult a GTR map to see the big picture - the layout of the road network & land - where places are in relation to where you're planning to go.

Not the Suan Mokfa, found that easy. It was the location of the Chiang Thai Coffee down near Mae Hong Son that was the trick. Your clue of near the turn off to Mok Chom Pae doesn't appear on any maps except your GT Mae Hong Son map. With the help of that and street view on google maps, I got the exact spot. Interestingly, the street view shows the building under construction. Guess the camera car hasn't been along that road for a while.

Great coffee and a fun place for a stop-off.
Themed venue. Inside they have a vintage car.
They normally have more large Superhero style statues outside, but looks like they are in the process of fixing some things up (or maybe putting away for rainy season).

Oh..also, as a tip, there is a big food place next to it. It would seem it opens 24 hours. I did a Pai night ride and at about 3am they were open for the delivery vehicles.

Its been there 10 years, but as you're heading west down the hill, the focus is usually on powering down that hill & you miss the coffee shop on the left hand side near the top.
