Have never seen the need since O-Ring and X-Ring chains appeared.
A wipe with gear oil seems to do the trick.

Great review & loadsa fun.

Now where's my gear oil?

I know that Joe at Joe's Big Bike uses it on his bikes.

Many thanks for the post, you're going to save me some money.

There's been numerous threads on GTR about chain lube too:

Chain grease in a tin

Excitement Plus - Chain Lube. My Chain Lube Explodes!

Veloil Chain Lube Spray

Anyone seen WURTH HIGH PERFORMANCE DRY CHAIN LUBE for sale somewhere in Thailand?

Might this be the end of our chain lubrication problems ???

O Ring Chain Maintance

Loobman oiler

Scott Oiler

but you've provided the definitive answer.

Back when dinosaurs roamed the earth we took off our chains, put in a coffee can, covered with gear oil.
Heat until smoke started, let cool, hand on a clothes hanger to drip.
But then O and X ring chains appeared and no need. Just a quick brush with old toothbrush and a wipe with 90W does the trick
