With a tip off & special request to attend I was able to catch the last night of Lahu New Year in the village of Song Phi Nong, 20 kms upstream from Chiang Khong.
The light was damn difficult for photos & the dancers had been at it for a week already, drinking, dancing, eating & celebrating on the run for 7 days.
I was impressed, the Lahu of Song Phi Nong know how to party & I was lucky to be able to make my escape when I did after several "one for the roads."

Song Phi Nong is a fascinating Lahu village with 4 different types of Lahu residing in the one village, evidenced by the different coloured costumes.

Most Lahu villages I have seen, usually have just one type, but not in Song Phi Nong.

Yesterday I was in Mae Yao eating pizza with a French Swiss group and later I drive direction Mae Salong along river Kok.
At Baan Ramit where the elefhant bring the tourist around the hill and the river
I see the street off road go to Doi Bo.
Last time I went there was around 12 years ago and I was with the car.
After 7 km I stop for take a soft drink in one village Lahu.
I start to listen fire cracker and 2 girls invite me follow them for drinking.
I pass the afternoon drinking with 10 girls.
When I strart again was already 17.30 I loose direction Doi Bo and I do one street off road arrive again to river Kok where have one school church not so far from street off road go to Mae Salong from intersection between Mae Chan tha thon.
I was in the mountain with the dark not so funny when you don ‘t know where you are,I loose the control of the breaks I must to stop 2 times for make it cold and in one river I put water on the disk because they was hot like fire.
Same days ago I want to sell my scooter and change with another I make price for it 18.000 baht but who want to buy ask to me more discount and I not give.
is 9 years old my scooter may be not beautiful comparate with new one but in a perfect condition.
I enjoi the lahu happy new year and the new street off road I do,I know must to strart early for do samething like this
But the idea come when you are in the street.
For this reason I have no camera for make fhoto with me yesterday.
The trip off road was long about 60 km.and total trip 100 km.
I am happy I not sell my scooter sh 150 cc. For Phuket island and off road is incredible but may be with off road tires will be much better.
I like hill tribe most of them last night make the fire around house

An outstanding, colourful event. Mark your calendars for Lahu New Year 2023 @ Song Phi Nong, upstream from Chiang Khong.
It is a unique village with multiple Lahu groups in one village.
