Part 1. The ride there. The 5th British Bikes & Friends Rally was in Suan Phueng, Ratchaburi, west of Bangkok. From Chiang Rai, the distance is about 1,000 klms.

Wednesday 11th October.

Pratu Pha, Lampang, is such a special place. If passing, I always have to stop and admire the scenery of the "Door" in the mountain ridge.

The '59 Thunderbird was cruising happily at 60-65mph, down highway 1. I had recently fitted a better cylinder head with less worn out cooling fins. The bike felt like the engine was running cooler. I stopped for the night at Thoen Happy Home, right on highway 1.

Thursday 12th October.

The Tak Petrified Log is easy to find, just off highway 1.
2023-10-12 08.25.36.jpg

The hoops of plastic are protecting the log from possible leaking roof sections.
There are several other less well preserved petrified logs in the same area.

Lunch; Somtam Gy Yang, Nakhon Sawan.

Another "must stop" break, at the amazing Balancing Rock in Uthai Thani.

The second night stop was in Dan Chang, Suphanburi.

Friday 13th October
In Kanchanaburi, I found the ancient ruins that are west of the city and north of the Kwae Yai river.
2023-10-13 10.31.56.jpg

These ruins date from around the 16th century and are spread over a city size area.
2023-10-13 10.34.19.jpg

The only visitors apart from me, were the cows..

My next destination was Muang Sing, a large historic city park, built in the 13th century at the time of the Khmer King Jayavaraman VII.

The first place to check was a burial site just outside the city wall, from approximately 2,000 years ago.

Dated to the bronze age, there are bronze bangles on the wrists.

Khmer architecture, similar style to the Bayon in Angkor.

Nice laterite entrance gate.
2023-10-13 12.56.31.jpg

Riding on, through some deserted areas in southwest Kanchanburi.
2023-10-13 13.46.38.jpg

Some great scenery in the western mountains.
2023-10-13 13.49.50.jpg

Then on in to Ratchaburi and the touristy area of Suan Phueng. I came across an astonishing coffee shop.
2023-10-13 14.59.07.jpg

Spectacular!
2023-10-13 15.01.54.jpg

I stayed the night just out of the main tourist area near to the rally site....
I popped in to the 3208 Garage, for the Friday night party, but only a few bikes were there so far...

Lots more to follow....

Love this, awesome, but a great cruisy trip, ticking off all those attractions. It's never ending finding new places to go in Thailand.

This shot is fabulous

exactly where is the location?

I'm jealous you got to see that ancient petrified log too, I've had that marked for a visit for a long time too, but never quite got round to it.

You got me on these ruins too
1698417292113.jpeg

Another trip I should do to hit along with Khampaeng Phet.

This coffeeshop looks amazing too

I wonder if it is related to either of these
or

How many times have you been to that bike rally & how many bikes do you reckon where there?

The Balancing Rock is marked as Thung Hin Toen on the Thinknet map. It is about 100 klms west of Nakhon Sawan city at; N 15 deg 40.124', E 099 deg 32.900'.
Lalitta Cafe looks a similarly themed cafe. Must check it out.

Actually, I have not been to the British Bikes & Friends Rally before. This was the 5th year in Suan Phueng.
Previously I have been three times to the Vintage Bike Rally in Kanchanaburi at the Sri Nakarin Dam.

BBF is a smaller meeting and has a more friendly atmosphere. The organisers call club members up on stage for recognition. This show attracts bikes only, mostly classic British bikes of which there must have been around a hundred. Only a few modern bikes and not so many modern Harleys.

VintageBike is a huge Rally with many stalls selling merchandise etc plus auto jumble. They also have many classic cars and trucks attending, but many people think it is a more business type atmosphere.

Both of them are fantastic, if you like old bikes. Yes, a long way to go from north Thailand, but.... so what.... if you have the time..

We arrived early afternoon
2023-10-14 13.12.44.jpg

Garage 3208 is a fantastic place. With a huge courtyard for bike parking, stage and food stalls. Inside the aircon room are a few classic bikes. Both inside and out there is automotive memorabilia everywhere. I noticed an ancient Champion sparkplug tester in there.
2023-10-14 13.38.06.jpg

I commenced an attempt to photo every bike.....

This guy arrived on an original BSA Rocket Gold Star. A beautiful machine and he dressed accordingly. Great stuff. I had a chat with him later and found out that he had owned an original 1947 Triumph Speed Twin that I built for a friend some years ago.

During the evening between the band sets, they introduced some club members up on the stage.
1697614209814.jpg

I was presented with the Farthest Ride Award. It is a Triumph oil pump... spare part for the ride home... Wow, what a fantastic gesture. The pump of course is the heart of the engine and the outside shape represents the roads we like to ride.
2023-10-14 21.22.10.jpg

BSA Spitfire, with fruity little exhausts.
2023-10-14 18.53.27.jpg

What a great evening and What a fantastic array of classic bikes!. I have never seen so many pre-unit Triumphs in one parking area.

Sunday 15th October 2023.
I rode over to the largest Monkey Pod Tree in Kanchanaburi.
2023-10-15 09.39.46.jpg

Several hundred years old and enormous.

Monday 16th October 2023.
On the road home, through Uthai Thani.
2023-10-16 07.55.27.jpg

2023-10-16 07.55.58.jpg

Late breakfast, Jok soup.
2023-10-16 07.58.08.jpg

Obvious cafe name..
2023-10-16 08.23.09.jpg

Near to Klong Lan NP in Kamphaeng Phet, I dropped in to see Khun Yod, who I had met at the bike rally. He had lived in England for 30 years and on vacations, used to carry spare parts back here, for his various classic bikes.

Tuesday 16th October 2023.

After a night stop in Thoen, Lampang, I rode for home. After a soak in the Huay Sai Khaeo Hot Springs, near Phan, I got home early afternoon.

The trip was for seven days and covered 1400 miles (2,250 klms). My bike celebrates it's 65th birthday... today, in fact. Congratulations to a fine machine. !!
