    IN PHAYAO
    1. Phu Thong Place for accommodation. 500 baht a night with brekky / 400 without. Excellent value for money.
    2. Krua Thep Pub & Restaurant for great 70s-80s pop-rock music. Good food, staff & service.
    3. Lakeview Pub. Good atmosphere & nice jazzy Thai music. Brilliant young lead guitarist & singer Mr Bird with the band Talents. They've also got a little 4 foot nothing female singer Floyd, (as in Pink Floyd.) Highly recommended for a cool night out.

    Pix below from the Lakeview....

The crowd at the Lakeview is younger student orientated, compared to the mature adult players at the Krua Thep. Hit both in a night, I do.

Yes, we totally agree. Had a great time at Krua Thep Pub & Restaurant, in Phayao. We always stop there when we pass through on the bike.
They have a good selection of blues CD's, too.

Look out for Cup Cake restaurant on the main road by the lake about as far south as you can go before the road turns back inland. The lady there speaks very good English ,went to Oz. where she learnt to cook, does the best brekky i've found in Phayao and it comes with a very good cappuccino, Fish and chips we ordered after brekky so she could get fresh from the markt. Lovely place to visit. feelthenoise,

Just what we've been in need of in Phayao for a long time - a decent brekky.
If you've got any photos we would love to see them.

The Phayao foreshore has almost endless restaurants, plus new coffee shops / bakeries all over town.

    What I like.

There are so many places along the south side, basically all offering the same thing, that I think the trick is to cruise past & see who has the most customers & then note if the customers are young or oldies, & are they eating or drinking. Some places are more popular for drinking & some for eating.

The Krua Thep is still going but certainly seems to be struggling.
The new hot pub - restaurant would appear to be the Meeting Point, with hot PG-waitresses & live music.

The Parisien Cafe is right next door to the Meeting Point, is aircon & has a nice cosy atmosphere.

    The HUG PHAYAO

on the "north-west" side of town, down by the lake.

A magic spot to make a nice impression.

A large open air deck with a view

The BIG view comes from up the tree.

+ they've got some karaoke rooms & a pool table for the guys.

highly recommended & well worth checking out.
If you have a 2008 GTR Golden Triangle map, on the Phayao city map it is where the Mai Nam Pub used to be.
    Or GPS Waypoint: N19.17089 E99.89530

Moving on from the Hug, 100 metres further North is

the Taukakai View Love @ Phayao.

this place juts right out on the water & is considerably up-market from the HUG.

    enormous servings of good food.

You can sit out on the terrace, if the rain & wind are not incoming.
Or you can sit inside with the band playing 70s hits -One Way Ticket.

We were forced to retreat indoors from a gale force wind that was blowing over the drink stations.
    It's all good fun.

And last but not least, there is somewhere for breakfast.

    the CUPCAKE

Yeehar, 3 cheers for a real farang breakfast in Phayao.

All set in a delightful fresh air garden

with loads of nice cakes for back up desert.

Phayao is a gem of a place with unlimited fresh air by the biggest lake in the North.
Only 2 hrs from Chiang Mai it is well worth checking out for an easy over night trip from Chiang Mai.
Don't hesitate to go. Jump on your bike early-mid afternoon & you're in Phayao for happy hour to watch the sun go down over the majestic lake.
