According to
http://www.mcot.org/query.php?nid=34094
on Dec 24
the Thai / Lao border opening hours will now be from 6.00 am - 10.00 pm.
From when this applies I dont know, & my guess is that not all border crossings will keep these hours.

Note too that, if you’re crossing on a bike (vehicle) from Thailand into Laos, you should be aware of the hours of duty for the customs.
Except for the two “land border” crossings of
1. Friendship Bridge at Nong Khai (T) / Vientiane (L)
2. Chong Mek (T) / Vang Tao (L)
The customs normally only work Monday – Friday, so if you are trying to depart from Thailand to Laos, on a weekend or public holiday, there will be no customs on duty to process the paperwork for your bike & clear you out of the country. You have to wait for the office to open on a regular working day (Monday- Friday.)
I’ve been caught once or twice coming out of Laos at Huay Sai, arriving in Huay Sai at 4.30 pm on a Friday, too late for the Laos Customs to get out & across the Mekong into Thailand before the Thai customs “closing time,” & was “forced” to hang out in Huay Sai for another 3 nights! (The staff at the Wang View were impressed!)
