The only motorcycle racing circuit in the north of Thailand, is being built about 30 klms SW of Chiang Rai. There are no signs on the road at present but it is due to open, for the first test race, in about September 2013.
It will be for bikes only.
Take a right turn here.
Khun Vut, who owns a construction company and the land, is the entrepreneur behind the project. He explained all about his dream to build the only race track in the north. He showed me where the pits will be
and he has coffee shop, toilets and other facilities planned. The circuit covers an area of about 22 rai.[IMG]
I went to check it out on an old Beeza
Of course I had to ride the circuit.... probably the only time a classic bike, or I..... will go round this race track. This is looking back up the main straight through the start finish line, the wrong way.[IMG]
Then it was off round the 1.3 klms race track...... the correct way...........at a moderate pace...... Through the first right hander,[IMG]
then into a quick left and right chicane.

A right-hander down onto the back straight[IMG]
Off down the far end of the track, through a couple of twisties, then there is a slight rise and a sweeping right-hander back through to the near end of the track.[IMG]
Then a sharp right and sharp left which then brings you back onto the home straight. A skilled rider will be looking at the checquered flag about here...........[IMG]
........... and those of us lucky enough to live in the north will be able to enjoy watching, or even competing, in some serious bike racing. ..... looking forward to it...........

Amazing news, amazing Thailand. I always thought this kind of thing would happen, an enthusiast with lots of money doing what they love, I just didn't think it would happen so quickly....

Brilliant. Well its time to start a classic bike race club then. Lots of cafe racers around, the owners of which I am sure would love to give them a bit of welly around a race track on a Sunday?

This would make a Great Go-Kart Track as well! Should be some interesting Action to come and another excuse to spend a night or two in CR!

thanks for the update Ian.good to hear about a new track although it seems a bit short for a big bike track.maybe good for the motards though.I think from memory Bira is 2.4km to give you an idea but i may be wrong.

^ Bira is 2.4 k`s around, this one at 1.3 will be fun on a SM or Go Kart i`m sure.

The old Oran Park (western sydney) south circuit although only 2k`s around didn`t have any corners where a whole lot of braking was needed and was a fun fast, flowing track. This one looks very stop start.

I think the SM guys will like it.
9. Feelin' some good weekends coming on eh?

The circuit is at; 19 deg 44' 43", 99 deg 41' 22". It's where the 1211 meets the 118. Take the small dirt road opposite the 1211, alongside the police box, then it's just down there on the right.

"An afternoon at the track," well actually just a stop off on the way to Chiang Rai

but for 500 baht you can have yourself some fun.

Scotty 007 could not resist taking his brand new BMW 1200GS for a spin

there was a young Thai guy on a Honda CBR1000 practising

So Scotty got to follow him around

There was another Thai guy, Khun Jit also there on a CBR1000 & he was lapping a lot faster at around 54-55 seconds.

Apparently the lap record is 46 seconds held by Gino Rea from Moto2

Was at 400kms on my new BMWR1200GS, so still running it in! Paid the 500 baht and off I went, super fun, track is tight but smooth, spent most of my time in 3rd gear! Doubt I was challenging for any lap records!!!
