Chiang Khong - Chiang Kham - Pong & Return.
R1020 - 1021 - 1148 - 1092 - 1179 - 1148 - 1021 - 1020. Distance 215 kms.
A bit of an unusual ride you might say, but working on a Nan map, I realised I was missing a GPS track for 1092, so why not go fora ride for the day & pick it up again. You get to ride 2 great biking roads, R1092 & R1179, two "minor" roads, often overlooked, but believe me they are great rides on deserted roads.
1148 has some great trees around Ban Hae.

R1092 comes off R1148, 21 kms out of Chiang Kham.
It winds its way through the hills with some superb steep sections & glorious views.

The funky aircon Cafe Mellow is my fave pit stop in Pong city.
The owner speaks good English, having studied in New Zealand for several years.
The coffee is great & there are plenty of simple dishes for a quick bite to eat.
The old GTR fellah goes for the tuna salad & is impressed every time.
