Time for a post new year's amble along one of the most amazing roads in the North.

Singapore road - a mere 12 kms of very steep twisting narrow concrete, a real little "snake of a ride."

The rider in training today, my son Jason on his Yamaha Aerox 155.

We'd talked about doing Singapore road before, but never quite got round to it, because of my accident 18 months ago, but now the old GTR fellah is back on the pace & operating normally on his Vstrom. It's taken a while but it sure feels good to be about riding with your son once more!

Our last trip together was here

The turn off to Singapore road is on R1155, 42.5 kms from Chiang Khong, & unsignposted it is.

Just another turn off into some villages.

Follow the concrete through the village 1.8 kms & you come to a turn off to the right, sign posted Huai Kuk.

There used be a short 500 metres dirt section from R1155 to the Huai Kuk turn off & it looked like this

But it is all concrete now.

The 1st Singapore road report on GTR

From the Huai Kuk turn off, the concrete lane starts to soar up into the mountains, twisting nicely as it goes.

Huai Kuk is a small Hmong village nestled on a ridgeline "in the middle of nowhere" & the roads either side are incredibly steep.

A super happy & proud son, having done Singapore road with his Dad.

Now if you've never done Singapore road before, I would recommend doing it downhill first, as you get to see the views more than if you are going up.
You can also see how steep it is places a bit more I think.
Here's my original "best steepie photo" from Singapore road.

Check it out sometime.
It will give you a buzz & you won't be disappointed.

For the record I stopped multiple times to take photos & we had one drink stop in Huai Kuk.
The 12.3 kms took us 1 hour.
