An Unplanned But Positive Big Wing Buying Experience

Sometimes the universe works in mysterious ways.
I have been saving up to try and get back up to a mid range motorcyle again. A successful sale of my Benelli TNT300 here on this group, left me with some cash and a bit more saved up, but not enough to buy a new Honda CB500F which I had decided was my next bike.
So yesterday I was on my way to view for a second time a 2 year old one that I could afford, although it would need new tyres etc to bring up to spec.
Got a message in the morning, to delay viewing time by 30 minutes, no problem, but having a bit more time decided to pop in to Big Wing to just confirm to me that the F was the one for me, rather than the more popular X.
Main reason for posting this was because many report a less than positive experience with Big Wing. So I looked at both bikes, Khun Tan approached and agreed I could sit on the bikes, he then informed me that the motor show promotion on these bikes finished on Monday 30th.
Promotion:
10,000 baht voucher to purchase accessories
PT card for petrol or oil with 5,000 baht credit on it.
Free First class insurance. Registration and tax included
100 baht petrol voucher at Niyom Panich shop
Free Sena Bluetooth communication system. Cost 11,500 baht at Lazada. This I am prepared to sell, as the box contains 1 and you need 2 to communicate. Good for tour groups I guess, but I do not like the distraction when riding.
Added up this is a really good discount on the purchase price of 210,000 baht.
But needed to be done by Monday at the latest and I did not have enough money.
We have Niyom Leasing said Khun Tan, only 3.75% per annum.
I had enough documents with me to convince him that I was credit worthy and long and short, he arranged for a visit to the main shop near the airport and signed me up. A red bike was in stock and reserved on 5000 baht deposit. They told me they would check me out and contact me on Monday. 1 hour later I was in Central Festival and a phone call informed me all approved and could collect the bike today. Which with a bit of logistics, getting my PCX back home and taking a Yellow bus to town for 20 baht from Doi Saket. I did.
Bike well prepared, even tyre pressures correct to the book, so a very happy and unexpected experience. If any one else wants to take advantage of the promotion, better get down there tomorrow, but maybe depending on Sales to date Honda might extend the offer. So a Big Thumbs up for Big Wing, for the buying experience. As for ongoing service, we will see.

Encouraging to read a good experience report. I can remember no particular problems when I bought my 500X from them 4 years ago. Everything was done as per agreement. The extras I ordered were fitted properly. First & second services were OK. I've not been back since, not because of Big Wing, just the fact that I'm 240 kms away! No warranty problems at all. If I do buy another bike it will be from them - unless of course someone realizes there is a market in & around ChiangRai.

I am suprised that Chiang Rai has no Big Wing shop, must be in Hondas plans surely
I'd like to think so - but as yet, I've heard no rumours.
Triumph apparently opened a new dealer in ChiangRai, how well they are doing, I don't know. Even Royal Enfield had an open day in MaeSai a few months ago, though I think their dealership is still only in ChiangMai.
Too many people think the North of Thailand finishes in ChiangMai! Hopefully that will change

Hi John

Congratulations on the new wheels! The experience you had reflects my own - I've purchased 2 bikes at Big Wing Honda CNX over the past 5 years (CBX 500 and CMX 500). I've found the staff to be always courteous and helpful. The 200 km trip to get my 500's serviced there is combined with some shopping for essentials - no Big C or Tesco over my way!

Previously, you had to "book in" for a service at Big Wing which was a bit of a hassle. Now its "first in, first served" so an overnight trip to the city allows me to have the bike at the service entrance at 8 am as the doors are being opened. Black Canyon at Thapae Gate is only a couple of minutes walk away, they do a very good 160 baht breakfast set... By the time I've had a second coffee and wandered back, the bike is usually ready to go!

Hope to catch up with you at some point - perhaps the proposed GT-R Up-country Dinners may create the ideal opportunity toards the end of May?

Hi Ben,
Yes I was thinking about the up country dinner as a good chance to get to say hello to people again. Look forward to seeing there

Hi John,

Just stumbled in here after a very long absence and I’m delighted to see your still buying bikes. Well done on the latest purchase. I hope you enjoy it. I’d send you a pm if I could work out how to do it.

Congratulation with your new bike.
I have only good experience with Big Wing in CNX. However, they won't do anything the the 1520cc F6. :)
