Hello,
first of all, I know nothing about China or the Yunan Province and I don't expect you to make me into an expert, what I need are halfway reliable Infos to get started or kick the idea out of the window.

A friend and me are doing a loop from Cambodia into Laos and then Thailand. Now I have the crazy Idea of actually having a peek into China as well (about 10 Days), but there are some concerns.

First of all we are on 250s - not exactly the fastest bikes on earth - and China is a pretty big country. Is there enough to see and do in southern China in this timeframe and on this bikes?

How about crossing the border on motorbikes and generally the situation of biking in China? The frontpages says it won't work, but on the other hand I remember some report postet here of people who got into China. What is the current situation?

And lastly: Is it fun? Can anybody recommend it? Where to find more Infos?

Thanks in advance!

From all that I read it now seems to be not possible.

Why has this shit to be so complicated over here? As a european I'm not used to this kind of stuff...

Hi Buebo,
You are about the 1 millionth rider that wants to conquer China. The rumours are that some yank stuffed it up years ago by wheeling and dealing with the como party over there and agreed to pay for a police escort etc etc. So now everyone needs the same bullshit.
I have spent 2 stints of work in Shanghai, last year for almost 12 months, the closest I got was to buy a Chiang Jaing 750cc outfit and ride it around China.(I didn't bother) You need a job, residency and a licence!
Check out the red devils motorcycle club web site and butches web site, there are threads on gt-rider.
Best of luck

Once u go Asian, forget about Caucasian

In Ko San Road, the backpackers street,in Bangkok, there is currently a Chinese 250 dirt bike for sale, with bejing plates on it, he wants about 60,000 baht.

suppose that may be one way to get back into China
