Have to agree mate. When I took the Bonnie in for it's first service, it included getting jet-washed and dried with an airline. Upon leaving, the indicators didn't work anymore so back to N.P. I told the guy and he look the key out of the ignition and started looking for the seat lock - there isn't one. So much for product knowledge eh? I ended up doing it myself and pulling the (very wet) flasher unit for replacement. I told them not to jetwash wheelbearings or under the tank e.t.c so hopefully the next customer doesn't get the same problem. On the plus side, they kept smiling throughout :? T.I.T.

Cheers,

Pikey.

First good impression at 1.000 kms Service at YAMAHA in Bangkok Ratchadapisek Road, cleaned by hand and not with waterjet, service was properly done within 1,5 hours. Engine oil cost me 290,- THB a litre for a high quality one which is nothing compared to other shops nearby.........
Further on does Charoenmotors/YAMAHA in Chiang Mai repair my 25 years old XJ750 Seca, got everything done except the rear shockabsorbers for a more than reasonable price. They informed me daily on the progress and costs, just consider a bike mechanic to be able and fix such an old bike or getting original spares which was for me not easy via Ebay.......altough I helped them out with a CD-repair manual. I was also told that the shock absorbers will be rebuilt by the mechanic in CNX David and Ian recommended, I was informed in detail as to what has to be redone and why.
On the other hand, I did not have any bad experience with BMW's first service at BARCELONA too, what upset me so much was later on the renewal of insurance, P.R.B., tax, where I had to remind them over and over again and even threaten with contacting HQ in Munich. After this, things started to move, but it was again me to contact them first. That's not something someone would expect from a VIP brand, even when leasing the bike like I did.........
As for Honda big bikes, for me it's the same like Toyota cars in LOS or VW in Europe, once a brand has the biggest marketshare they get arrogant, such as: the customer has to beg for getting their product for a high price with few amenities, just look at the airbags provided in any TOY car in Thailand.........what is standard worldwide isn't so much with the marketleader here (similarities with VW in Austria, same also with the high prices for spares and accessoiries).......that's why I drive a cheaper Ford........So it isn't all that bad, we should do some complaining with the typical smile when thingsdon't work the way we as customers would expect and through this things will improve at last, cheers Franz

Several months ago I was told by Niyom's marketing manager that they would be getting the Honda service contract, but the showroom would be elsewhere. The same as the Triumph set up.
He also said he thought it would all be go, not long after April, but I now doubt that going on the email from AP Honda in Bkk.
Time will tell, but in my mind there's no doubt Honda are going to join the "big bike party."

The Snail & I met Khun Pawat Klongbunjong
][email protected]
at the Motor Show in Bangkok.

Surprise, The Snail & Pawat know each other well from a fast Ducati thrash on R1148 a few years ago. The Snail's no slouch on a bike & insists that Pawat is a good smooth fast rider - he could not shake him off on 1148! So we've got a real rider looking after our big bike interests at A.P. Honda.

Now Pawat wants to thank all those guys who've sent in emails to him already.
When things have cooled down after the motor show he will be supplying us with a lot of info on Hondas Thailand big bike plans for this year & next.
But like the other manufacturers, as a rough rule the bikes will have to be fuel injection models to meet the strict Thai emission control laws & homologation.

Meanwhile if want to out in your bit, please email Pawat
][email protected]
at A.P. Honda. He appreciates all your input.
Go Honda go. Bring in your big bikes for us to ride.

Captain
Yes confirmed at the Bkk Motor show: Niyoms will service the bikes, but the main big bike showroom will be elsewhere. And realistically this will happen next year 2009 in Chiang Mai, unfortunately not 2008. Bkk will have theirs later this year.
There will be a demo day in Bkk, plus others in Cnx & up country later on.

Goldwing isn't a bike - it's a Winnebago motor home.
I believe RobertH travelled extensively around SE Asia including
Laos, when it was still a real challenge.
There's quite a cool group of bikers who remove all the haberdashery, turning it into a mutha of a naked muscle bike.
Good news tho if the Big H is going to bring big bikes - pity the adventure collection is still not on their list.

Hi,
I wonder if that new Honda dealer would do trade ins. When i bought a new Honda car in BKK a few years ago, they gladly took my old car and gave me a new one, nice people!
Anybody knows if Yamaha "Big bike" in BKK do trade in?
Brgs,
Tom

Yamaha (Korat) said they'd be happy to take my old bike when I spoke to them at the Khon Kaen show. I'm not sure whether it's a case of them needing to sell it first and using the money as a deposit or taking it on as stock.

Hi Tia and good to see you are making use of all your track days and training skills :) Might have to try that myself sometime to keep up with you on the Honda! lol
I'm sure it's going to help a lot having you there since you are out riding and involved rather than just someone who's pushing paper and looking at how to make the most money in the shortest possible time!!
