I wrote this up maybe 3 years ago but due to Covid and the inability to enter many hilltribe areas due to fear of illness certain areas have been closed to visitors. I last went over this route with Brian Sage over a year ago and all thats changed is the leaf litter has gotten deeper. If you enter from the signed road near to Pa Sang you are on a road that Lahu villagers use to come and go to markets and govt offices, hence you are less likely to be stopped at the check point and asked for a National Park fee. If you enter from the road off the Fang bypass you are joining the more regular visitors who go to camp at Kiew Lom and more likely to pay. I was once told it would cost me 400b which had me turn around and forget it.
Its a long climb up from the orange groves at the base of the mountain with just one decent sized Lahu village to pass through. There are some tight steep turns and debris on the road would make it difficult if it was wet, especially on the almost unused section between these two names sites. See the pics for confirmation. Its a true forest at the top, a Royal Project to protect the watershed.

Campers at the Little House were quite numerous and they all looked a bit cold. There was no sunny morning or good view to keep them amused, just cloud mist.

The road surface in most places is good, recently poured concrete but just deep in pine needles and dead branches but you can see there has been efforts to keep it clear, almost certainly due to the Royal name.

On the road between these two sights there are two very steep, tight bends that need extreme care, the second being the worst. The sign only appears at the first one so be careful.

If you are into camping there is a brand new shower-toilet block at Little House and plenty of facilities at Kiew Lom which is the more popular.

The road continues on up the mountain for what I am told is 3 kms, to the peak and lookout, vehicles are not allowed so its a walk and as a man with badly damaged knee I gave it a miss. About 16 kms from here down to the 107, all good road but a little narrow so look out for the Lahu in a pick-up who assumes the road is empty.

Once past this village its just the reservoir and the ticket booth, then back out onto busy highways.
