Skywalks in North Thailand

The new fashion tourist attraction of "skywalks" is catching on fast with multiple sites around the country.

The latest one to be opening soon is at Wat Phra That Pa Ngao, downstream from Chiang Saen.
Construction only started 2 weeks ago, but they expect to be open at Songkran with a soft opening & an official Grand Opening set for October.

In the meantime you can check out the ongoing work from the Pha Ngao Coffee shop.

I have been to this Skywalk a few times now, official opening from memory was September 2020 and we went the following month, it was very busy back then, I went again with some friends in December 2021 and it was alot quieter this time...........................................both times impressed me and would go again, sure its not for everyone but I enjoyed it, I cant get used to walking on the glass so I am one of many that hold onto the railing, not like some of the people we saw that were crawling along the boardwalk

A quick update on the Chiang Saen skywalk being built at Wat Phrathat Pha Ngao.
The completion is delayed by another 2 months they reckon - waiting for the glass from Chonburi.

The status 31st March 2022

Fees
The visitor fee will be 50 baht, which includes slippers for the walk.
With the increased traffic, & lack of parking space at the site, vehicles will no longer be able to drive up to the viewpoint, but park down below in the car park.
E-tan taxi transport for 30 baht will provided from below.

To me, it is a horrible ugly thing, but ok as a fairground attraction.
To build it at an ancient temple seems completely wrong and out of place. It has ruined the view from and of, the doi.
Maybe I'm old fashioned or something, but it is just another ugly modern construction as a blight on the landscape.

Yes I agree with you in many ways.
How she / they get away with that at Wat bewilders me; but don't let big business get in the way?? There's money to be made there now & I wonder what the split is with the Wat?

Grand opening in October??

The Chiang Saen Skywalk will be officially opened on 27 October 2022.

1 accident & 2 years later I finally got to hit the Skywalk at Wat Phra That Pha Ngao.

It was well worth the visit on a magnificent sunny day after 2 weeks of miserable rain.

A full Nam Kham river flowing into the Mekong.

Feeling awesome.

Belgian Michel from Chiang Khong was my riding buddy on the day.

At the temple park below in the car park.
Walk 100 metres, pay 20 baht for a ride in the songtaew.

Get a lift to the coffee shop & skywalk.
Pay 40 baht for a pair of slippers and you're away on the Chiang Saen Skywalk.
Go while you can in low season, while there is no crowd!

The Ruak River separates Thailand & Myanmar.

I rode my bike up & parked it by the temple, but I saw the red cones on the road "blocking" cars. You need to take the songtaew service.
The fee was 50 baht for the slippers & skywalk.

Enjoy on a sunny, quiet day, the views are absolutely stunning.
